3 shops gutted, property worth lakhs destroyed

POONCH, Dec 6: Three shops were completely gutted in a devastating fire incident in the main market at Poonch this evening.

Official sources said that incident took place at around 6.15 pm in the busy market just opposite Punjab National Bank. It spread due to suspected electric shocks. The flames  engulfed a mobile phones shop of Imran Khan, another shop of Bikram Singh and a chicken shop. The people informed the Fire Services officials but its local telephone number was lying out of order since long. However, they conveyed them about the incident later.
Two Fire tenders were pressed into service. The people lodged brief protest as the Fire tenders arrived late. It took about an hour to control the fire. The adjoining shops were saved in the busy market. The people said that two adjoining shops could have been saved if the Fire tenders had arrived in time. The Fire Officer claimed that due to narrow market and traffic jam of  bikes and other vehicles, it took about half an hour to the Fire Services vehicles to reach the site of mishap. The loss of property was put at around Rs 12-15 lakh by the authorities. The police has taken cognizance of the matter.
