SRINAGAR, Sept 24: Three militants and a soldier were killed in an encounter near the Line of Control (LoC) in Tanghdar sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district today taking the toll of militants killed in the encounter to 5.
Army today killed three militants near the LoC in Tanghdar sector during an operation that was launched two days ago after a group of militants infiltrated into the sector. A para commando of 4-Para was also killed in the encounter today.
It may be mentioned here that the troops of Army’s 20 JAT challenged the movement of a group of at least five militants near Eagle Post along the LoC on Saturday morning after they noticed them infiltrating into the sector.

The troops deployed near the fence challenged the infiltrators leading to a brief exchange of fire. The reinforcements were rushed to the area and a massive operation was launched against the militant group.
Two militants were killed in the encounter last evening. Two AK-47 rifles, magazines and war like stores were recovered from the two killed militants.
The Army tightened the cordon and more troops were rushed to the area as their associates were still at large. This morning, three more militants were killed in the encounter, who were hiding in the area and one para-commondo, Lance Naik Sandeep Singh was killed.
Three AK-47 rifles, magazines and war like stores were recovered from the encounter site. Sources said that the documents recovered from the killed militants suggested that they belonged to Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT).
An Army spokesman said here that the troops in Tanghdar sector foiled an infiltration bid killing five militants and one soldier was also killed in the operation. He said that this was one of the major infiltration bids that was foiled by Army.
Army along the LoC has been put on maximum alert after inputs that the militants may try to intensify the efforts of infiltration ahead of winter when snow closes the mountain passes.
And Mushtaq Ahmad Mir, 45, son of Ghulam Rasool resident of Harwan area in Bomai, Sopore who was abducted from his house by militants, was shot dead today. His dead body was recovered from an orchard in Latishart village.
Police have registered a case and a search has been launched to nab the accused.
