3-day historic Shankri Mela commences

PANCHERI, Aug 22:  The 3-day historic Shankri Devta Mela got underway in village Meer of block Pancheri in district Udhampur, today where thousands of people attired in  traditional dresses thronged the Mela site to offer prayers and seek blessings of their revered deity for overall peace and prosperity.
Mela Officer, Tehsildar Panchari, Romesh Singh inaugurated the historic Mela in the Shankri Devta temple premises amidst beating of drums and full festivity.
The Mela is being organized under the overall supervision of District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Yasha Mudgal
While speaking on the occasion, Singh appealed to the devotees to take part in the Mela which is playing a pivotal role in promotion of local culture, brotherhood and communal harmony in the society.
On the occasion, Department of Information organized a scintillating cultural  show which was highly appreciated by the audience.
The district administration has made adequate arrangements of drinking water facility, medicare, electricity, sanitation, transport etc.
To educate the people about various state and centrally sponsored government schemes, different departments have put up their stalls at the site of mela.
Among others, Chief Animal Husbandry  Officer Dr. K.L. Gupta, District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Dr. Satish Gangwal, District Information Officer, Dr. Ashwani Hansa, District Medical Officer, Dr. Som Singh, Naib Tehsildar, Mohd. Arif Tak, Tehsil and District Heads of various departments were present on the occasion.
