3 buildings, 7 shops reduced to ashes in devastating fire

*People protest, demand permanent fire tenders

DODA, Jan 12: Property worth lakhs of rupees was reduced to ashes in the devastating early morning fire in which three residential buildings comprising 7 shops were gutted at Kahara area of Gandoh Sub Division.
According to the reports, three residential buildings-cum-shopping complex comprising 7 shops came under mysterious blaze in main market of Kahara. The fire, which started early morning at 4:30 AM, completely destroyed 3 residential-cum-shopping complex buildings 7 shops.

After getting information, police team rushed to the spot and with the help of locals doused the flames, but till then the residential building 7 shops got completely damaged. 2 shops got partially damaged in the ablaze. Later, fire tenders from Gandoh and Thathri also reached the spot.
No injury or casualty has been reported in the incident, while the exact loss could not be ascertained yet.
When contacted Additional SP Bhadarwah Rajinder Singh said, “Police team led by Incharge Police Post Kahara Nazir Ahmed Rishu along with SSB, fire tenders and locals reached the spot and started operation to douse the flames, which was spreading very rapidly as the residential-cum-shopping complex building and shops were located in densely populated market and all the adjoining structures are mostly made of dry cedar and pine wood.”
“The fire has been completely extinguished and we are assessing the losses”, he said, adding that police has taken the cognizance and started investigation into the matter.
According to the reports, the gutted buildings belong to Abdul Qayoom Butt, Ghulam Hussain and Karmat Ali, trio residents of Kahara.
However, aggrieved over the repeated fire incidents in the area resulting in loss of property and life every now and then, locals gathered at Kahara and blocked the Thathri-Gandoh road demanding permanent fire tender office at Kahara.
According to reports more than a dozen fire incidents were reported from different areas of Bhalessa in last one year including three devastating ones in Kahara market alone resulting in loss of property worth crores.
Meanwhile, Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad expressed grief over damage to the properties and instructed the divisional and district administrations to provide immediate help and support to all those affected due the devastating ablaze. He also demanded immediate provision for fire-fighting equipments for areas like Kahara, Gawari, Bathri, Malikpora, Gandoh and Bhatyas.
