POONCH, Dec 13: Three forward villages in Balakote area near the Line of Control (LoC) are without power supply for the last about two months.
A local of the area Zaheer Ahmed told the Excelsior that villages- Baruti, Kanga and Ramlutta which are located on that side of the fence, are without electricity supply for the last more than seven weeks. He said a transformer installed in the area went out of order and thereafter, the concerned PDD authorities failed to restore it after repairing. Even the replacement was not provided. The people of this LoC belt are badly suffering and with this the water supply has also been snapped. The kerosene oil is also not available to the villagers of this belt.
The villagers alleged that they brought the matter to the notice of concerned field staff and even to the officials at PDD Sub Division, Mendhar, but no cognizance of the matter was taken by the PDD staff. Two weeks ago, Tehsildar Balakote was also informed about the plight of the people, but again there was no response till date. They sought the intervention of Deputy Commissioner, Poonch and Chief Engineer PDD (M&RE) Jammu in this regard.
