3 arrested for illegal soil extraction

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: Police today claimed to have arrested three persons who were involved in illegally excavating and transporting of soil in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
A Police spokesman said that after acting on information, Ganderbal police launched a drive against illegal mining along the banks of river Jehlum and arrested three persons for illegal excavation and transportation of soil. Besides, three vehicles were also seized from the spot.
He said during the raid in the area, a police team headed by In-charge Police Post Shadipora under the supervision of SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal-JKPS, one JCB and two tippers bearing registration numbers JK03-8045 and JK03-9268 along with drivers Sikandar Ahmad, a resident of Watler, Mohammad Amin Dar, a resident of Kharbagh Waskura and Mohammad Sultan Hajam, a resident of Kurhama were found indulging in illegal mining to excavate soil illegally. All the three vehicles were seized and the drivers were arrested from the spot.
“In this regard, Ganderbal police has registered cases under relevant sections of law and investigation has been taken up,” he added.
