3 arrested for abduction, rape of girls in Bandipora

SRINAGAR, May 17: Police today arrested three accused of abducting and raping minor girls from Bandipora district of North Kashmir.
Station House Officer (SHO) Bandipora Syed Gazanfur told Excelsior that the arrests were made in two separate cases. He said that one Yasir Khursheed Ganai and Ehsan Akbar Mir were arrested after police received complaints from the families of two minor girls (names withheld), aged 15 and 16 about their abduction.
The SHO said that the duo had abducted the minor girls on May 14 while they were on way to their tuition centres and subsequently taken to Pahalgam tourist destination. “At Pahalgam, these persons raped them in solitary place,” he said, adding that with the help of their Anantnag counterparts, police managed to rescue the girls and arrest accused today. “They were arrested in just 48 hours,” he said.
Police have registered a case under FIR number 68/2017 under section 363/376 RPC against the accused. “The accused are behind the bars,” he said.
The SHO Bandipora said in another case, police arrested a person accused of raping a 13-year-old girl in Arin village of Bandipora on the intervening night of 9 and 10 May. In this regard, he said, they received a complaint from the victim girl on Monday and soon investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation one Shamroz Ahmad Malik was arrested after found involved in raping the minor on the intervening night of 9 and 10 May.
The SHO said police have registered a case under FIR number 66/2017 under section 376 RPC against the accused in police station Bandipora. “The law will take strict action against these persons,” he said.
