28 fresh dengue cases reported in Jammu region

JAMMU, Sept 22: The number of dengue cases is rising sharply in Jammu region, with 28 fresh cases reported today, taking the number of people affected so far with this vector-borne disease in Jammu region to 116.
According to official sources as on today, a total of 850 patients were tested for dengue out of which 116 cases were found to be positive and reports of 509 were found negative while result of 225 samples are still awaited. “No death has been reported due to Dengue so far”, they added.
Elaborating more, sources said that out of 116 Dengue cases, maximum 105 have been reported in Jammu district, two each in Samba, Kathua, Rajouri and Udhampur districts and one each in Poonch, Kishtwar and Doda districts. They said that all 28 fresh cases which were reported today are from Jammu district.
They further revealed that out of these 88 dengue patients, 80 were adults (46 males and 34 females) and 36 were children (21 males and 15 females).
They said that so far Dengue has not claimed any life in Jammu region and most of the patients affected with the disease have returned to their home after successful treatment in various hospitals.
The sources said that Health department is taking all necessary measures to prevent the spread of Dengue. “The main cause of Dengue is stagnant water and the department is spreading awareness among the masses to prevent stagnation of water. The department has also sensitized its staff and Asha workers to combat the disease”, they added.
