270 kms road length macadamized, 17 major bridges completed in Valley: Veeri

SRINAGAR, Oct 20: Minister for Public Works and Parliamentary Affairs, Abdul Rehman Veeri, today said that 270 kms of macadamization of roads and 17 major bridges have been completed in the Valley.
Reviewing the functioning of PW(R&B) Department in Kashmir division, Veeri sought detailed progress of works from the engineers in their respective areas.
The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner Works, Bimal Tikoo, Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir Sheikh Abdul Hamid and Superintending Engineers, Executive Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers of all districts.
The meeting was informed about the achievements in different sectors like roads, special bridge programme, cities and towns, CRF Programme, Prime Minister’s Development Programme from all areas of Kashmir division.
The Minister was informed that under NABARD 15.95 kms were macadamized, 14.65 kms under CRF, 46.45 kms under CM’s commitments, 99.33 kms under State sector, 0.42 kms under SPA (Bridges -approach road) and 1.00 km under district sector.
The Minister also discussed the physical/ financial status of CRF projects sanctioned during 2014-15. The projects which were discussed include four lanning of Boulward road from Nehru Park to Kralsangri, upgradation of Larkipora Zaldoora Laisser road, constriction/upgradation of Dhani Tadd upto Parada Pandov including Surmapadi Road, improvement/ upgradation of Lassipora Arihal Khamiri Road, widening/ upgradation of Awantipura Tral Road via Dadsara.
Similarly, the upgradation/widening of Safapora Hakbara road, widening/ upgradation of Chadoora Khanda road to intermediate lane, widening/upgradation of Nadihal-Erin Bandipora road were also discussed.
The meeting also discussed upgradation of Magam-Beeru Budgam road, upgradation of Sopore- Shiva road, Khumriyal ring road, Sangam- Srigufwara Khiram during the review of physical/financial status of CRF projects sanctioned during 2015-2016.
Similarly upgradation of Khanabal Pahalgam, upgradation of Hygam Tarzoo Sopore road, widening and upgradation of Gingal Bijhama Lachipora road upto Muqam/ Mayan were also discussed.
Asking the engineers to adhere to deadlines, the Minister asked them to submit detailed reports about the delays in construction on bridges over the years so that steps would be taken for their completion.
The Minister issued strict directions to the concerned engineers of Srinagar to identify the places where roads turn into cesspools during winters and start early work on those identified spots.
Veeri directed the officers to macadamize the Jehangir Chowk-Rambagh stretch on priority basis.
