27 cyber crime cases under investigation: CM

JAMMU, Jan 30: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today said that 27 cases related to cyber offences are under investigation with the Crime Branch.
Responding to the question of MLA Anjum Fazili in the Lower House, Mehbooba Mufti, who is also Minister Incharge Home Department, said that with growing use of information technology and the penetration of cyber activity, the Government has taken appropriate measures to deal with the vulnerabilities.
“The Information Technology Act, 2000 as amended from time to time, is applicable to J&K and provides legal framework for dealing with cyber offenses”, she said, adding “the Government has recently established two cyber police stations-one each at Srinagar and Jammu for exclusive investigation of the cases pertaining to cyber crime”.
She informed the House that a proposal regarding establishment of a cyber police station at Crime Headquarters is under process in the Police Headquarters. “As on date, 27 cases related to cyber offenses are under investigation with Crime Branch and efforts are being made to bring investigation to logical conclusion”, Chief Minister said.
