25th Road Safety Week begins

JAMMU/SRINAGAR, Jan 11: Like others parts of country 25th Road Safety Week is being observed across the State on the theme “When on the Road, Always Say Pehle Aap”.
Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Ali Mohammad Sagar urged for adherence strictly to the traffic rules for smooth flow of traffic and ensuring safety of people besides restricting road accidents.
Minister was speaking at a function organized to observe Road Safety Week here today, in which large number of people including Traffic Police personnel and representatives of Motor Companies participated.
Minister urged that traffic law awareness camps should be organized in educational institutions including Schools, Colleges and Universities for the benefit of students.
Speaking on the occasion, Superintendent of Police Traffic, Srinagar said that during the current fiscal Rs 2.5 crore were recovered from drivers and other traffic violators for violation of various traffic rules.
District Development Commissioner, Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Dr GN Qasba, DIG Traffic Range Kashmir, Jagit Kumar, DIG CKR, Afadul Mujtaba, Senior Superintendent of Police Srinagar, Amit Kumar, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Anees Ahmad, Head of Law Department, Kashmir University were present on the occasion.
At Jammu, Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) J&K in collaboration with Traffic, Police Departments, educational institutions and stake holders observed National Road Safety Week.
Transport Commissioner, Sourabh Bhagat was the chief guest on the occasion.  DIG Traffic, Shafkat Watali, Regional Transport Officer, Jammu, Arwind Kotwal, Director State Motor Garages, GS Sofi, Deputy Transport Commissioner, ML Raina, MD, SRTC, JS Tandon, GM SRTC, RS Jamwal, SSP Traffic, Vinay Parihar, SP City North, Yougal Sharma, ARTO Jammu, Kulbir Singh, Chief Motor Inspector (MVD), Jugal Sharma, senior officers of concerned departments besides Chairman All Automobile Dealers Association, Chander Gulati and office bearers of various Transport Associations were present.
Speaking on the occasion, Sourabh Bhagat said that main objective of observing this week is to spread road safety awareness among general masses in order to reduce the scale of fatal road accidents occurred in hilly and accident prone districts of Jammu and Kashmir State.
DIG Traffic while speaking on the occasion said that it is the moral responsibility of everyone living in society to spread message about the road safety measures and hazardous effects of aggressive driving without following the traffic rules.
RTO Jammu said collective efforts would make a significant impact on the incidence of road accidents and help mitigate the scourge of road accident related deaths and injuries.
The rally comprising hundreds of school children, college students, traffic police, driving institutes, auto unions, automobile dealership was flagged off by Transport Commissioner culminated at the Gulshan Ground, Gandhi Nagar after passing through different parts of the city.
At Kathua, Motor vehicle Department, Regional Transport Office organized function in connection with 25th Road safety week.
On the occasion a rally of bikers was organised which was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner Jitendra K Singh. Starting from RTO Office rally passed through main chowks of the town and culminated at PWD Rest House Kathua.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajesh Sharma, RTO Kathua Ajay Sharma, ARTO Kathua were also present on the occasion.
Among others Project Officer DRDA, Kathua, CEO Kathua DySP HQ Kathua, DTI Kathua was also present.
At Reasi, DDC Reasi Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary flagged off a rally from Mini Secretariat Reasi, in which around 700 students from different educational institutions took part.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Reasi Rajinder Singh Tara, ACD Joginder Singh Rai, PO DRDA  Dr Jagdish Mehra, Major 39 RR Signal  Regiment Bharat were also present on the occasion. The rally passed through main market before culminating at bus stand. The refreshment for students was sponsored by 39 RR signal Regiment.
Later, ARTO and his team held meetings with the drivers and conductors of vehicles at various places so as to make them aware about road rules.
At Lakhanpur, Traffic Awareness camp and bikers rally was organized in which around 150 bikers participated. The rally was flagged off by Deputy Commissioner, Kathua in presence of ARTO, Additional Superintendent of Police Kathua, DTI Lakhanpur and DTI Kathua. The rally culminated at City Chowk, Kathua.
At Samba, rally cum awareness camp of school children was organized which was inaugurated by RTO Samba and attended by Superintendent of Police, Traffic Rural, Jammu along with DySP (T) Samba-Kathua in which large number of people along school children participated.
At Rajouri, a rally of school children was organized which was flagged off by Deputy Inspector General of Police, range Rajouri-Poonch and attended by Deputy Commissioner, Rajouri along with ARTO, Rajouri, SP Rajouri, DySP (Traffic) Rajouri-Poonch and DTI Rajouri. A large number of people attended the rally which started from Bus Stand and culminated at Dak Bungalow.
At Poonch, Traffic awareness rally of school children was orgainsed in which large number of people participated. The rally was flagged off by SP Poonch and attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Poonch along with I/C DTI, Poonch. The rally started from Sheshmahal, DC Office and culminated at Government Boys High Secondary School.
