23 sheep, goats crushed to death under truck

RAJOURI, May 12: At least 23 sheep and goats of  a nomad family were crushed to death under a truck on Jammu-Rajouri road near village Faliana last night.
A police spokesman said that  the incident took place at around 10.30 pm when one  Mohd Qadir, son of Mohammed Ayub, resident of Barobi village was on way to Peer Panjal via Mughal road. The family was moving on foot on Rajouri road along with their sheep and goats.
A truck which was on way to Jammu from Rajouri side, ran over at least 23 sheep and goats while the family members jumped to the safety. The truck driver did not stop and crossed over the poor animals in same speed. They lodged a report with the Rajouri police after some time but the vehicle could not be traced or intercepted on the highway.
The Rajouri police registered a case in this connection and started investigation. The crushed animals were removed from the road in the morning after the senior police and civil officers visited the spot. The people of the area have demanded compensation for the poor nomad. The family have  their  `dhok’ in Peer Panjal range and they were moving along with their animals/ cattle to stay there during summer months.
