215 youth from J&K join Army

SRINAGAR, Aug 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry Regimental (JAKLI) Centre today showcased its latest batch of 215 passing out young soldiers from Jammu and Kashmir.
The passing out parade, depicting graduation of recruits and their transformation into young soldiers, was reviewed by Lt Gen Satish Dua, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff and Colonel of the Jammu & Kashmir Light Infantry Regiment and was attended by a spectrum of military dignitaries from all three service and parents of the recruits.
General Officer Commanding 15 Corps, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, Rear Admiral MA Hampiholi, NM Flag officer Commanding  Western Fleet and Air Vice Marshal Sanjay Nimesh, Air officer Commanding  J&K were some of tri service military dignitaries who attended the parade.
The recruit course 115, on having completed one year of strenuous training was attested today at a glittering parade at the Bana Singh Parade Ground of JAK LI RC.
The defence spokesman said: “The dauntless young soldiers of the Regiment hailing from all regions of the State of J&K, marching in precise unison with a singular aim of devoting their lives in service of their nation, singing their Regimental Song ‘Balidanam Veer Lakshnam’, inspired one and all as their voice echoed in the Kashmir Valley. Their salute to the Tri-Colour with National Anthem playing inspired patriotic ardour among all present.”
The spokesman said that the General Officer congratulated the young soldiers for their immaculate parade and impressed upon selfless service towards the nation.  He praised their contribution towards encouraging more and more youth from J&K to come forward to join the security forces and also highlighted the vital role played by their parents in motivating their wards to join this noble profession.
He said the recruit Dilbag Singh received the Sher-e-Kashmir Sword of Honour & Triveni Singh Medal for being adjudged ‘Over all Best Recruit’ and Recruit Rahul Kumar bagged the Chewang Rinchen Medal for being ‘Best in Firing’.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Satish Dua, Colonel JAKLI Regiment while congratulating the young soldiers said that this is also one of the faces of J&K where large number of youth are joining Army. “There are misguided youth from Kashmir who are on the wrong path but this is also another face of J&K. If everybody is alienated then why did we have youth coming in huge numbers in Army recruitment rallies. So, we must understand that there are some misguided elements but there is some sentiment we get to see in youth of J&K,” he said.
An affiliation ceremony between Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry (JAK LI) Regiment, Indian Naval Ship, Kochi and 51 Squadron Air Force was also carried out today in a glittering ceremony at Bana Singh Parade Ground at the JAK LI Regimental Centre here.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Girish Luthra,  Flag Officer Commanding in Chief Western Naval Command, Lt Gen Satish Dua , CISC and Colonel of the JAK LI Regiment ,  Lt Gen AK Bhatt, General officer Commanding 15 Corps, Rear Admiral MA Hampiholi, Flag Officer Commanding  Western Fleet & Air Vice Marshal Sanjay Nimesh, Air officer Commanding  J&K and numerous other tri services military dignitaries.
The spokesman said during Operation MEGH RAHAT in Aug 2014, JAK LI Regimental Centre and 51 Squadron Air Force were jointly deployed in Kashmir for  flood relief operations and together evacuated thousands of people to safety and provided them relief and assistance.
Speaking on the occasion, Vice Admiral, Girish Luthra said that to strengthen the ties between the two services, a frontline ship of the Indian Navy INS Kochi has been affiliated with JAKLI Army unit. “It is for the first time that we are doing this affiliation between a Naval unit and an Army regiment outside a Naval base, therefore it is first step and this is going to strengthen our working together. We will have personnel from JAKLI visiting our ships, sailing with our ships and similarly our personnel from ship will visit their various locations and learn about functioning of various battalions of JAKLI. This will promote better understanding and better synergy between the two services,” he said.
