2 pilgrims among 3 dead

JAMMU, May 23: Three persons, including a woman, were killed and six others were injured today when a car ploughed into a group of pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh before hitting their parked bus alongside National Highway in Sidhra area of Jammu.
“The bus bearing registration number MP1320-0225, which was on its return journey from Vaishno Devi shrine, developed some technical snag and was parked on the roadside near Sidhra highway here when a rashly driven Alto car (registration number JK20-2651) allegedly skidded off the road and hit the pilgrims before crashing with the rear side of the vehicle”, a police official said.
The accident took place at about 3:45 PM near Hotel Grand Hill when some pilgrims were waiting outside the vehicle, he said, adding that three persons including two pilgrims and a woman travelling in the car died on the spot while six others received critical injuries in the mishap.
The three dead were identified as Sita Devi (55) wife of Laxmi Dass, resident of Mari (Reasi), Ramesh Chander (55) son of Onkar Lal, resident of Ujjain (MP) and Hira Lal (73) son of Bala Ram, resident of Sehore (MP). Their bodies were shifted to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Jammu for postmortem.
The injured persons identified as Sansaro Devi (75) wife of late Shiv Ram, Rakesh (29) son of Laxmi Dass, Hukam Chand (37) son of Laxmi Dass, all residents of Mari (Reasi) and Vijay Kumar Shikari (60) son of Manohar Lal, Dinesh (30) son of Radhey Shyam and Bharat Joshi (32) son of Mangi Lal, all residents of MP, were also shifted to GMCH for treatment.
In this connection, a case was registered at police station Bagh-e-Bahu and investigations started while both the vehicles involved in the accident were seized.
