2 killed, 16 hurt in mishap

DODA, Feb 11: Two persons including a driver were killed and 16 passengers received injuries in a head-on collision between bus and winger at Karara on Batote-Kishtwar highway, here this afternoon.
As per police sources, a winger bearing registration number JK06-5733, which was on its way from Kishtwar to Jammu collided head-on with a passenger bus bearing registration number JK02BA-8477 near Karara on Batote-Kishtwar highway at 1:30 pm.
The collision was so potent that the driver of the winger died on the spot and 17 passengers traveling in both the vehicles received injuries.
After getting information, police team from Karara police post rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. All the injured persons were rushed to District Hospital Doda, where doctors declared one of the injured passengers as brought dead, raising the death toll to two.
The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ramzan (driver), son of Ghulam Qadir Lone of Ghuraka, Seri, Bhaderwah and Shama Begum (42), wife of Farooq Ahmed of Qazigund, Srinagar.
The injured persons identified as Gulshan Begum (45), wife of Abdul Latief, Shafiq Begum (48), wife of Asgar Ali, Mohammad Ashraf (45), son of Ghulam Hussain, Asgar Ali (55), son of Ghulam Hussain, Hanifa Begum (51), wife of Abdul Gani, Mohammad Sharief (58), son of Mohammad Ramzan, Shakeela Begum (40), wife of Mohammad Shafi, Parveena Begum (45), wife of Mohammad Ashraf, Mohammad Shafi (58), son of Ghulam Hussain, Mahtaba Begum (50), wife of Mohammad Shafi and Zaitoona Begum (48), wife of Mohammad Shafi, all residents of Bhalla, Koushalya Devi (55), wife of Subash Chander and Sarla Devi (50), wife of Vijay Kumar, both residents of Kishtwar, Shazia Begum (35), wife of Barkat Ali of Doda and Abdul Gani (70), son of Muhamdu Batt of Khellani are responding to the treatment, when reports last came in.
One of the injured namely Ashok Kumar, son of Surjeet of Chirala has been referred to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for advanced treatment.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Thathri police station and investigation started.
