2 jewellers shot dead, gold worth Rs 4 crore looted in Mathura

MATHURA, May 16:
Armed criminals have shot dead two jewellers, injured two others and decamped with gold worth Rs 4 crore in the temple city’s Holigate area.   Around eight heavily armed criminals last night at 2000 hrs fired indiscriminately at the jewellers, when they were ready to close the shop, SSP Vinod Kumar Mishra said here today.
The criminals fired indiscriminately in which four people received gun shots.
Jeweller Megh Agarwal died on the spot while another Vikas Agarwal succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, the SSP said. Two other jewellers Mayank Agarwal and one Ashok were critically injured in the firing.
” The criminals took away all the gold and other jewellery in the shop during their 30 minute operation,” police said.
The SSP said a manhunt has been launched to nab the criminals and CCTV footage of the nearby areas were being checked.
Meanwhile, irked with the incident, the entire trader community of the city  has called for total market ‘bandh’ today in protest against the deteriorating law and order situation. (PTI)
