10 protesters injured in firing at Shopian

SRINAGAR Jan 13: The Special Cell of Delhi Police and Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian today arrested two militants, who were part of an ISIS module that was busted in North India last month.
The module was in touch with the Hizbul Mujahideen militants in Kashmir and were trying to strengthen the ISIS in New Delhi and other areas for which they were trying to procure arms from Jammu and Kashmir.
The team of Special Cell of Delhi Police has been working on identifying and apprehending the modules inspired by ISIS and of HM who are procuring weapons from North India.
They, during the investigations, learnt that these modules, of late, are strengthening their cadres in Jammu and Kashmir and planning to extend their activities in Delhi and nearby areas.
They along with Shopian police laid naka and arrested two militants of HM namely Kifayatullah Bukhari son of Mehrajuddin Bukhari of Nowpora Bara, Shopian and a juvenile.
The Special Cell of Delhi Police was led by Inspector Satish Rana, Sunil Rajain and Ravinder Joshi under the supervision of Lalit Mohan, Hridaya Bhushan and Govind Sharma, ACP Special Cell, Lodhi Colony, New Delhi.
Police have registered a case (vide FIR No. 07/2019) in Police Station Shopian under Section 307 Ranbir Penal Code, 7/25 IA Act, 16(B), 18 ULA(P) Act.
At least 12 persons were injured, one of them critically, in bullet and pellet firing by security forces on protesters in the native village of Zeenat-ul-Islam, the Al-Badr chief commander who was killed along with his associate in Yaripora area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district last night.
Security forces had laid barricades to prevent entry of people to Sugan to attend funeral for Zeenat-ul-Islam. The security forces went inside the village, leading to clashes. Security forces fired at the protesters injuring five. One of them Bilal Ahmad Wani, is critical with an injury in the head.
Bilal Wani, a resident of Batnoor, along with other four injured persons including Sameer Ganie of Chitragam, Zainapora, Mehraj-ud-Din Dar of Sugan and Muzamil Ahmad of Sugan have been shifted to local hospital from where four of them were shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment. The condition of Bilal is said to be critical at SMHS hospital.
A girl identified as Shoki was hit by Casper vehicle and she has been also shifted to Shopian hospital.
Six persons with pellets injuries were taken to district hospital Pulwama for treatment.
The authorities have removed the deployment and barricades after the situation took an ugly turn.
Zeenat-ul-Islam alias Dr Usman and his associate Shakeel Ahmad Dar of Chillipora, Shopian were killed in a brief encounter at Kathpora village in Yaripora.
Authorities suspended the train services from Srinagar to Banihal following the killing of two militants in South Kashmir’s Kulgam last night. However, trains continued to chug on Srinagar-Budgam in Central Kashmir to Baramulla in North Kashmir as per schedule.
