Srinagar, Oct 11: Two militants and two Indian Air Force (IAF) commandos were killed in an encounter in Bandipora district of North Kashmir early today while Police arrested two cops and an Over Ground Worker (OGW) of militants for supplying arms and ammunition to Hizbul Mujahideen in Shopian district of South Kashmir.

Acting on a specific information, Bandipora Police along with Army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon and search operation in village Pribal Salamabad area of Hajin in Bandipora district of North Kashmir last night.
Security forces noticed the movement of militants during the operation in a street who were asked to stop and surrender but they opened fire and lobbed a grenade, in which one Garud commando of Indian Air Force Corporal Nalesh Kumar (Air Force) was killed on the spot while another identified as Surjeet Miulind Khairum was seriously injured. The injured commando succumbed to his injuries.
The fire was retaliated in which two militants identified as Nasrullah Mir alias Anna son of Nazir Ahmad Mir resident of Mir Mohalla Hajin and foreign militant Ali Bai alias Maaz alias Abu Bakker were killed. Two AK riles, one pistol, 19 pistol rounds, one grenade, two pouches and other ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.
Srinagar based Defence spokesman, Colonel Rajesh Kalia, said that the two Garud commandos were operating with the Army for operational experience and training.
The DIG North Kashmir BK Verdi told reporters that last night Bandipora Police got specific information about presence of some militants in Hajan area and they along with 13 RR and CRPF cordoned off the area during which a fierce gun battle took place in which two militants were killed and two IAF commandos were killed.
Verdi said that the militants were involved in many attacks including killing of BSF Jawan Mohammad Ramzan alias rameez at his home, with knives and then fired indiscriminately, in which he was killed and his old aged father Ghulam Ahmad Parray, two elder brothers Mohammad Afzal Parray, Javid Ahmad Parray and paternal aunt Habla Begum wife of late Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Shah were injured.
“They were also involved in case FIR number 42/17 under section 307 RPC, 7/27 A. Act firing on patrolling party in which one Army Captain and two Army jawans were injured”, the DIG said.
Police said that Nasrullah Mir was also involved in stone pelting case FIR numbers 38/2014, 44/2014 and 52/2014 of Police Station Hajin.
The two Garud commandos were part of the first batch of IAF personnel attached to the Army for anti-terror training in the wake of the Pathankot attack.
Official sources said the training of the elite Garud personnel with the Army was part of a range of measures the Indian Air Force (IAF) had initiated to bolster security at all its installations after the terror attack on the Pathankot Air Force base last year.
The two squads of Garud personnel, comprising one officer and 13 commandos each, had joined the Srinagar-based Chinar Corps in August for a six month-long “live situation training”, the sources said.
Kishor belonged to Nashik while Nayan was from Bihar.
The Garud commanders are tasked with protecting all critical bases and installations of the IAF across the country.
Police in Shopian district of South Kashmir today arrested two cops and an over-ground worker (OGW) who supplied ammunition to Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militants.
Police said that a naka party of Police apprehended Adil Ahmad Negroo near Circuit House Shopian in suspicious conditions and recovered 20 live rounds of AK-47 from his possession on October 9. “He is a strong OGW of active militant Waseem Wagay alias Saifullah and Ishfaq Thoker alias Abrar of HM outfit,” police said.
“On questioning, the said person revealed that he and his friend namely Mudasir Ahmad Mir of Okay Kulgam had received 40 rounds of AK-47 from one constable Shabir Ahmad Malik of Amshipora Shopian and posted in District Ganderbal”.
Police said that constable Shabir Ahmad Malik was apprehended. “He further revealed that he had received the said 40 rounds from constable Nazir Ahmad Najar of Kulgam who is currently posted in Kot DPL Shopian,” Police said.
SP Shopian Shriram Ambark Dinkr said that both the policemen have been arrested and further investigation is on.
