2-day State level conference on Juvenile Justice Act concludes

JAMMU, Jan 8: The first ever J&K State level conference on `Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection) Act-Options and Opportunities’, sponsored by UNICEF,  concluded today at  Central University of Jammu.
The participants from various sectors, like Social Welfare Department, Education Department, Police, civil society, academia and Non-Governmental Organizations, such as International Red Cross and Red Cross, deliberated on the various aspects of juvenile justice system in the State of Jammu and Kashmir.
The conference identified various challenges in the operational aspect of Juvenile Justice Act and Integrated Child protection scheme in the State. The Department of Sociology and Social Work assured that the department along with the support of UNICEF will bring out a detailed report which will be shared with Department of Social Welfare,  Government of J&K.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Ashok Aima assured that the university would provide support for establishing the resource center for childcare and protection.
The UNICEF team comprised  Vandhana Khandari, Child Protection Specialist, UNICEF New Delhi and  Ved Prakash, UNICEF, Assam.
Bharti Ali, Resource Person from New Delhi,  provided expertise insight for the conference. Hilal Bhat,  Consultant UNICEF J&K,  presented the summary report of the conference.
Prof  L S  Ghandi Doss, HOD Sociology and Social Work, had organized the conference while  Mohd Uzair and Bhat Iqball were co-coordinators.
