2-day Jail Superintendents Conference begins

JAMMU, Mar 2: To evaluate and improve prison management J&K Prisons Department today organized a two day Jail Superintendents Conference.
Director General of Prisons, S K Mishra inaugurated the conference being held at Kot Bhalwal Jail.
Among others the conference was attended by the DIG Prisons, M.S. Lone, Superintendents and staff of various jails and Prison Medical Officers.
Speaking on the occasion, Mishra emphasized on the role of staff in meeting organized objectives and need to adopt modern technology for improving the security in the prisons and follow best prison practices. He said the department has focused on reformatory and rehabilitative programmes for inmates and welfare of staff besides infrastructure development.
Mishra also announced that the J&K Prisons Department is going to organize ‘Jail Idol’ at Jammu in which jail inmates will get the opportunity to show their talent in singing.
During the conference, jail heads gave power point presentations on the set up of their respective jails and issues pertaining to the security and correctional services.
The presentations were followed by an open discussion on jail management, infrastructural requirements, recruitments, staff development, reformation and rehabilitation of offenders, health care, implementation of various judicial rulings, ministry of Home Affairs/State Government Advisories, fiscal, technical and legal issues.
Later, a felicitation ceremony was held in which the recipients of prestigious President’s Correctional Service Medal and Director General’s Prison Medal were honoured.
