2 BSF jawans injured in mysterious ‘firing’

SURANKOTE, Jan 2: Two BSF jawans were seriously injured after another jawan fired on them with his service rifle at a camp near Mandi in district Poonch last night.
Sources said that a jawan on Santry duty noticed some suspicious movement near his camp and fired upon in that direction with his service rifle at around 10.40 pm last night. Later, he found that with mistaken identity, he had fired on his own unit soldiers.
Both the injured jawans Shree Ram and Varu Sareha were rushed to nearby unit hospital and then to DH Poonch. They were airlifted to Command hospital Udhampur this morning as their condition deteriorated. The higher authorities in BSF have ordered an inquiry.
Another version said that there was clash between the two BSF jawans and one of them fired upon the other with his service rifle. Another jawan who tried to settle the matter and snatch the rifle was also fired upon. The police has registered a case FIR No. 1/2017 at Mandi Police Station. The accused jawan has been detained along with rifle, the police said.
