JAMMU, Mar 26: Three days 17th J&K State Fencing Championship got underway at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, here.
Around 200 fencers boys and girls drawn from various schools and clubs are participating in the event.
The Championship was declared open by Director Sports JU, Daud Iqbal Baba as the chief guest.
The Championship is being organized by J&K Amateur Fencing Association in collaboration with Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
Prominent among those present on the inaugural ceremony MJ Sharma, President J&K Amateur Fencing Association; Vijay Sharma, Patron; Chief Coaches Shotu Lal Sharma, Rachna Jamwal and Pritam Slathia, besides other officials, committee member and senior players including Rashid Ahmed, Ajay Khartol, Anthony Mattoo, Tony Mattoo, Abdul Qadir, Pritam Slathia, Rahul Sharma, Shivani Hans, Shreya Chib and Mokshi Sharma.
The gold medals in various fencing events and categories went to Vedang, Ananya, Vaibhavi, Pratyaksh, Suhani and Shiban Singh, while the silver medals were bagged by Sharanpreet, Vanya, Samiksha, Atharv, Shriya and Shivansh Kapoor.
