17 new colleges approved for uncovered areas: Hanjura

JAMMU, Feb 5: Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Hanjura today informed the Legislative Council that 17 new Degree Colleges have been approved by the Cabinet for uncovered areas in the State.
Responding to a Calling Attention Notice of MLC Sham Lal Bhagat in this regard, the Minister said there are two fully functional GDCs in district headquarters at Doda and Ramban.
The Minister said Doda district has a GDC in Doda town,   Bhaderwah,   Kilhotran and Thathri.
Similarly there is one each GDC functional in Ramban town, Banihal and Gool in district Ramban.
The Minister informed the House that the State Cabinet has approved 17 more new GDCs vide its decision no: 203/12/2017 dated 23.10.2017. “These colleges are being established in uncovered Assembly segments of the State and the location wise details are being worked out by the Education Department,” the Minister added.
Later replying to a Calling Attention Notice, Minister for Agriculture, Ghulam Nabi Hanjura today informed the Legislative Council that during the current winter, consumers of Leh were provided average 18 hours power supply in a day.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice by MLC Qaiser Jamsheed Lone in this regard.
Giving details, the Minister informed that Nimo Bazgo Power House with an installed capacity of 3×15 MW, is being operated by NHPC. “But due to the freezing of water in Indus river during winters, the power house supplies only 24-MW during peak hours as they have to store water to meet full demand,”
“However, due to limited 66 KV power connectivity,   the far flung areas including Nyoma, Durbuk and Nubra blocks etc  are being fed through DG sets and a minimum of 5 to 6 hours supply is made available to such areas,” the Minister added.
While responding to the supplementary, the Minister said that all the uncovered areas will be illuminated by 2019.
