RAJOURI, Jan 19: At least 17 cattle were charred to death and property worth lakhs was destroyed in a major fire at village Nagoon in Chingus area last night.
A police spokesman said that house of one Abdul Rehman, son of Fakhar Din, resident of Nagoon caught fire during last mid night. The members were fast asleep but woke up and ran for the safety. The fire also spread in the adjoining cattle shed where five buffaloes, two oxen and ten sheep/goats were also charred to death besides a dozen chickens. All the four rooms were razed to ashes.
The Police and Revenue authorities today visited the site of mishap and took cognizance of the matter. The cause of fire could not be ascertained.
