JAMMU, Oct 19: A special drive was undertaken by officers of the Legal Metrology Department in Kunjwani ,Nanak Nagar, Channi Himmat and Gandhi Nagar areas to protect the consumers from being fleeced by unscrupulous traders on the festival season .
According to Manoj Prabhakar Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Consumer Protection, during festival season market is being flooded with large number of advertisements to lure the consumers with attractive offers and sometimes hapless consumers are cheated with deceptive packages with inflated prices.
To check the sale of such products Inspector Legal Metrology Mujahid conducted extensive checking of traders dealing with Hardware Stores, Vegetable and Fruit Sellers, Toys Sellers, Departmental stores, traders dealing with food items and other traders.
More than 40 traders were checked and 15 were booked under the different provisions of laws enforced for the purpose & deceptive packages deficient of mandatory declarations like MRP, PKD, Net Weight ,address of the manufacturer and consumer helpline number which are required for the information of consumers were seized.
The Department has appealed to the consumers to be more vigilant while making purchases especially during ferstivals and all the bills must be scruitinized viz-a- viz MRP and preserved for any future course of action for getting the benefit of Warranty.
