15 injured in Bandipora clashes

SRINAGAR,  July 26: Around 15 people were injured in fresh clashes that broke out for second day today in Bandipora in North Kashmir over the killing of a 21-year old man in Army firing.
The Bandipora town and its adjoining villages observed complete shut down and Srinagar-Bandipora and Sopore-Bandipora road remained blocked due to clashes at various places between police and protesters.
Police also fired in air to disperse the protesters. The worst clashes were reported from Aloosa, Kaloosa and Bandipora town and Police charged batons and used tear-smoke to disperse the protesters.
Public and private transport services were also affected and shops and business establishments remained closed in Bandipora town and its adjoining area.
Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani accompanied by Director General of Police Ashok Prasad and Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, S M Sahai today visited the youth’s family and also reviewed the law and order situation in the town.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said here today that clashes were reported from Watpora and Aaloosa in Bandipora. “Miscreants pelted stones on the police and security forces deployments. Police exercised maximum restraint, handled the situation tactfully and dispersed the miscreants. There are no reports of any serious injury to anybody so far”, added the spokesman.
