KATHUA, Jan 9: Fourteen children were injured at Sakhad (Kali Bari) on Pathankote -Jammu National Highway when the matador in which, they were traveling turned turtle this morning.
According to Police the matador bearing number JK02E, 8780 was in high speed and it turned turtle when it tried to overtake another vehicle on National Highway resulting into injuries to 14 school going children.
They were rescued by the passers by and people from adjoining localities who shifted them to Hospital for treatment.
Among them 13 children were admitted in District Hospital Kathua where there condition is stated to be out of danger. One student whose condition became critical was referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Hospital, Jammu. He has been identified as Pankaj Singh, son of Chaju Singh of Bosoian Kathua.
The matador was carrying children to Army School, Kathua from Budhi Nanan in North Kathua. The driver and conductor of the matador fled from the spot after accident.
The Kathua Police has registered a case against the duo and seized the vehicle.
The panic gripped the area after the accident and the parents of the students have shown grave concern over the safety of their children traveling in matadors and other vehicles.
Later the DC Kathua, Jitender Singh convened a meeting of Traffic Police and civil society to devise the means how to check the traffic rules violation.
In another accident one motor cyclist was also injured when his two -wheeler skidded off the road at Pali on National Highway, 10 kilo meters from here today.
He was identified as Kuldeep Singh son of Manohar Lal. Kathua Police has registered a case. He was rushed to GMC Jammu for treatment.
