SRINAGAR: About 1,300 passengers, including women, children and elderly people, who were stranded at different places on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway due to snowfall, were rescued to safer places during the last 24 hours.
A Met department spokesperson said that isolated light rain and snow would occur during the next 24 hours in the State.
A police spokesperson said that police personnel evacuated about 700 civilians from Jawhar Tunnel, who were stranded due to inclement weather and snowfall.
Besides, he said over 1,000 civilians were provided food and shelter in Banihal by Police and civil administration.
In the aftermath of snowfall, he said police has deployed rescue teams across all affected areas of the state. In the last 24 hours, police rescued 700 stranded passengers from Jawahar Tunnel on Kashmir highway. “Three hundred individuals were taken to Qazigund, 300 to Banihal and 100 to the CRPF establishments where they were provided all required assistance,” he said.
Moreover, he said 600 people rescued from Banihal area were accommodated at Nowgam and Gund area of Banihal where they were provided food, shelter and accommodation for night stay with active support of civil administration. (AGENCIES)
