JAMMU, Feb 28: Governor N N Vohra would inaugurate the three-day-long 12th JK Science Congress at the University of Jammu on March 2, here in the General Zorawar Singh Auditorium.
Around 800 senior faculty members, research scholars and postgraduate students from various reputed Research Institutes, Universities and Colleges of the State and the country have confirmed their participation in the event.
This was disclosed by Prof Geeta Sumbali, Dean of the Sciences, JU, and the Organizing Secretary, 12th JK Science Congress. “The University is hosting the event in collaboration with J&K State Science, Technology and Innovation Council. The Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the University of Jammu, will inaugurate the event,” she said informing that Syed Mohammed Altaf Bukhari, Minister for Education, J&K would be the guest of honour while Prof Akhilesh Tyagi, JC Bose National Fellow, University of Delhi and former Director, National Institute of Genome Research, shall deliver the keynote address. Prof R D Sharma, Vice Chancellor, JU shall preside over the inaugural function. Sajad Gani Lone, Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings, Science &Technology would be the chief guest for the valedictory function on 4th March, 2015.
Prof Sumbali also informed that the theme of the Science Congress is centered on “Science and Technology: Emerging Trends and Innovations”. The Congress will serve as a platform for scientific interactions focusing around various interesting themes include innovative approaches in physical, chemical and earth sciences, Advances and innovations in life sciences, Advances in medical and other sciences and their impact on human well being, Trends in development and application of IT and communications, Innovative dimensions of mathematical and engineering sciences, New vistas in the geospatial technologies, Biodiversity evaluation, conservation and sustainable development, Climate change and assessment of available technologies, Environmental issues and their mitigation and Policy issues for making science and technology affordable.
Prof R D Sharma, Vice-Chancellor, JU has expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements for the mega event.
Prof Yash Pal Sharma, HoD Botany, JU, said that several plenary, invited and technical sessions will be organized. “There will be 10 venues/sections for technical sessions in different areas of Science and Technology that will have presentations, both oral and poster, on specific scientific themes. In each section best oral and best poster award will be given to young researchers. These special invitees who would deliver special lectures during the Science Congress include Dr John A Haines (WHO Geneva), Dr Susheel Kumar Sharma ( Department of Cardiology, GMC Jammu), Prof G V R Prasad ( Department of Geology, CAS, University of Delhi) Prof Ravindra Kumar Sinha from Patna University, Dr Surinder Singh, Director, National Institute of Biologicals, Dr Asit K Chakraborti, Department of Medicinal Chemistry (NIPER) and others.
Besides, there would be invited lectures by Dr Vandana Bhalla of GNDU Amritsar, Prof T N Lakhanpal of HP University, Prof S K Khosa of CUJ, Dr Sanjay Kapoor from University of Delhi, Dr Dhiraj Vyas, IIIM, Jammu, Brij Mohan Sharma, Director, State Forest Research Institute, Jammu, Dr R K Soni, Dr Rajinder Bhatia and others.
