126 kg poppy straw seized, 3 inter-state smugglers nabbed

UDHAMPUR, Oct 15: In a yet another big success, Udhampur police recovered 126 kg of contraband substance (poppy straw) from three inter-state narcotic smugglers near Jakheni on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway here today.
Giving details SSP Udhampur, Rayees Bhat, said that based on reliable information, a party of Police Station Udhampur led by Insp Sanjeev Chib, SHO Udhampur under the supervision of Zahid Saif Wani, DySP HQ laid a naka at Jakheni for checking of vehicles.
During checking, police party noticed a Bolero bearing registration No. PB08EB/ 1537 tow chained by a Tata Mobile bearing registration No. PB-08G 7124, which were subjected to thorough search.
During search, 126 kg poppy straw was recovered hidden clandestinely in a false compartment. Three persons were arrested in this connection. They are identified as Harjinder Singh, Balbir Singh, resident of Massa near Phillaur; Simranjeet Singh, son of Kewal Singh, resident of Taleem, Phillaur, Jallandhar and Sukha Singh, son of Lamaleen, Ludhiana.
In this connection, a case under NDPS Act stands registered in PS Udhampur and further investigation of the case taken up.
