1200 girls participate in District Level Inter School Tournament

JAMMU, Apr 19: 1200 girls drawn from 14 Zones of Jammu district are taking  part in the District Level Inter-School Tournament for girls in the sports disciplines of Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess, Carron, Speedball, Rifle Shooting and Weightlifting, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports at Indoor Complex, MA Stadium, here.
The competitions are being held under the patronage of Shiekh Fayaz Ahmad, Director General, Youth Services and Sports and under the overall supervision of Madan Lal, Joint Director, while Chanchal Kour, DYSSO Jammu is the Organizing Secretary of the Tournament.
Earlier, the competitions were declared open by Chanchal Kour, District Youth Services and Sports Officer, Jammu.
While addressing the participants, DYSSO Jammu said that such a huge participation of girls in a district level tournament is a step forward towards women empowerment.
The objective of the tournament is to select Jammu District teams for the tournaments to be played at higher levels.
In Under-17 Girls Carrom (Singles), Vanshika of DBN beat Pranavi of St Francis to claim the title, while in semifinals, Vanshika of DBN trounced Niharika of St. Xavier and Pranvi of St. Franchis outplayed Mridul of DBN.
In Under-17 Girls Carrom (Doubles) final, Sheetal Lakhotra and Ramta Devi of GHS Sohanjana got the better of Shipali and Rishika of St Xavier to win the title. Earlier, in semifinals, Sheetal Lakhotra and Ramta Devi drubbed Davyani and Amandeep of MVM and the duo of Shipali and Rushil Gupta of St. Xavier outplayed Pranvi and Vanshika of St. Francis
In Under-14 Girls Carrom (Singles), Ambika of SOS beat Sagrika of St. Francis in the summit clash to bag the title, while in the semifinals earlier, Sagrika of St. Francis beat Avantika of SOS and Ambika of SOS prevailed over Naina of DBN Amarvilla.
In Under-14 Girls Carrom (Doubles), Nisha and Kajal of GHS Sohanjana beat Keshri and Bhagya of SOS in the finals, while in semifinals, Nisha-Kajal duo of GHS Sohanjana beat Mamta-Bhumika pair of APS and Keshri-Bhagya pair of SOS outplayed Niharika-Kaniya duo of APS Sunjwan.
In Badminton Under-17 Girls, KC Gurukul  beat Doon International by 2-0 sets; KC Public beat Sarvodya Public School by 2-0 sets; APS Kalu Chak outplayed New National HSS Miran Sahib; GD Goenka go the better of DBN by 2-0 sets; MIER beat Guru Nanak Public School by 2-0 and APS Ratnu Chak prevailed over Crescent Public School by 2-0 sets.
In Badminton Under-14 Girls, APS Domana  outclassed Maharishi Vidya Mandir by 2-0 sets; APS Ratnuchak beat Jammu Sanskriti by 2-0 sets; Maharishi Vidya Mandir trounced MIER by 2-0 sets; DPS drubbed GD Goenka by 2-0 sets; KC International got the better of Oriental Academy by 2-0 sets and St Xavier defeated Middle School Gorkha Nagar by 2-0 sets
In Badminton Under-17 Girls, Arushi of BSF Paloura beat Siya of St. Xavier, Rishi of BSF drubbed Ritika of St Xavier, Radhika of GD Goenka outplayed Deemahi of Crescent Public School, Akanksha of GD Goenka outplayed Parminder of Crescent Public School, Samridhi of APS Miran Sahib outclassed Muskaan of DBN Jammu, Harleen of APS Miran Sahib drubbed Divya of DBN Jammu, Anshika of Heritage beat Charvi of APS Ratnu Chak and Malika of Heritage got the better of Samridhi of APS Ratnu Chak
The matches were officiated by Sanjay Khajuria, Vikram Jamwal, Vishal Bharti, Tarun Pal Singh, Amit Kalsi, Kamal Singh, Sunil Kumar, Sunny Dogra, Gurbachan Singh, Anil Dogra and Ravinder Singh.
