RAJOURI, Nov 2: At least 107 sheep and goats of nomad families were killed in a lightening incident in higher reaches of Thannamandi in district Rajouri last night.
Official sources said that a few nomad families were coming down from the Pir Panjal Ranges due to snow fall and increasing cold in that region to the low lying areas of Kalakote in Rajouri along with their sheep and goats. They were taking night halt under some trees along with their cattle near Mangota village in Thannamandi.
It started raining with thunder storm during late last evening. Due to lightening during mid night at least 107 sheep/ goats of four members of nomad family were killed.
They reported the mater to Tehsildar and SHO Thannamandi about the matterduring early morning. A Police and Revenue team along with Veterinary officer reached the spot today and after examining the spot disposed off the dead bodies.
They later came to know that out of the total 107, 40 sheep/ goats belonged to Mohd Iqbal, 27 Haji Mehboob, 26 of Jalal Din of Taryath -Kalakote while 14 belonged to Ishtiaq Ahmed of Nowshera. Many goats were also injured in the mishap. But the members of nomad families escaped unhurt being at some distance from there in the tents. The DC directed the SDM Thannamandi to initiate process to provide some relief to the families.
