JAMMU, Jan 23: Under the garb of ‘exigencies’, the Health and Medical Education Department has ordered over 100 pre-mature transfers of doctors since April 2015.
Replying to the question of BJP MLA from Kathua, Rajeev Jasrotia, the Health Minister informed the Legislative Assembly that over 100 doctors were pre-maturely transferred since April 2015. He, however, claimed that pre-mature transfers are not made as routine and such orders are issued to meet the exigencies like providing services in particular institution and in the interest of administration or public health care.
The data, which was shared with the House, clearly reveals that several doctors were transferred from one place to another even within four months to one year time-frame. Moreover, several such orders deprived health institutions in rural and far-off areas of the specialist doctors.
About progress with regard to establishment of Medical College at District Headquarter Kathua and Mahatma Gandhi Child and Maternity Hospital, the Minister said that process for acquisition/transfer of additional land for establishment of new Medical College at Kathua is under process.
“Two sites-one at village Logate and another opposite the District Hospital have been recently identified and the matter is with Revenue Department”, the Minister said, adding “the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has sanctioned eight new MCH including one at Kathua at a cost of Rs 125 lakh and the old building of Mahatma Gandhi Child and Maternity Hospital Kathua was deemed appropriate for the establishment of MCH Wing by taking up the necessary repairs/ renovation works through JKPCC”.
He said that funds to the tune of Rs 100 lakh have been released and work is in progress.
