10 yrs RI awarded to 2 charas smugglers

JAMMU, July 12: 1st Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Mohan Singh Parihar today awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs one lakh each to Kali Dass, son of Som Nath and  Asha Singh, son of Babu Ram, both the residents of Badyal Brahmana, who were arrested with over 12 kilograms of charas.
After hearing Advocate Prince Khanna for the accused whereas APP Ajay Singh Manhas appearing for the State, the court observed, “in the instant case, admittedly the quantity of contraband falls in commercial quantity. So the maximum punishment provided under Section 20 (b) (ii) (C) of the Act is 20 years and with fine extending up to Rs 2 lakh but the minimum sentence of ten years has been provided and fine not less than Rs one lakh”.
