10 feared drowned in Krishna river, 3 bodies fished out

VIJAYAWADA: At least 10 people were feared drowned when their boat in which they were sailing, capsized in the river Krishna, upstream the Prakasham barrage, at Fherri village, about 15 km from here on Sunday evening.

According to police, 30 people, who were on picnic party on the occasion Karthikamasas, boarded a boat being operated by a private agency. When the boat sailing towards the confluence of Krishna and Godavari river, the boat capsized.  Nearby fishermen rescued 20 of them, while 10 were feared drowned in the river.

So, far three bodies, including two women and man had been fished out from the water. According to boatman, all the people on the boat shifted to one side to have a glimpse of Krishna-Godavari confluence, resulting in the accident all of a sudden.

The officials or police did not know that how many people were sailing in the ill-fated boat when the accident took place and how many of them drowned.  However, as per the preliminary information, 10 were feared drowned.

The NDRF personnel were pressed into the service to fish out the bodies. Top police and revenue officials rushed to the spot. (AGENCIES)
