10-day long Ganesh Mahotsav culminates

JAMMU, Sept 27: The ten-day long Ganesh Mahotsav which was celebrated with full religious fervour and gaiety across Jammu region concluded here today after immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha in various rivers of the region.
Holding of Shoba Yatras and Prabhat Pheris by the devotees marked the culmination ceremonies across the Jammu region. The people had erected Pandals on which the idols of Lord Ganesha were installed for daily Pooja archna at various places. The pandals were fully decorated and illuminated during the festival days.
Daily hundreds of devotees were turning up at the venue of these Pandals both in the morning and evening to perform pooja in a traditional way to invoke the blessings of Lord Ganesha who as per the Hindu scriptures is the son of Lord Shiva and also the first stair to worship of God. As per Hindu scriptures no worship is complete without remembering Lord Ganesha first.
The devotees after the Pooja -Archana were serving Prashad to people daily during the festival days. The pooja -archana was held late up to night hours.
The celebration of Ganesh Mahotsav is much common among the migrant labourers. This morning the devotees gathered in front of the Pandals on which the idols of Lord Ganesha were decorated by the devotees in different parts of the region and after performing pooja -archna the Shoba Yatras were taken out for immersion of the idols in rivers and canals.
People from various parts of Jammu city and outskirts took out Shoba Yatras up to the bank of river Chenab, (Chanderbagha) in Akhnoor where the immersion ceremonies were held with chanting of religious hymns.
The immersion ceremonies were also held at River Tawi, Ranbir Canal and Tawi Canal by the devotees. In Kathua town the hundreds of devotees assembled in front of Thakur temple at Main Chowk Kathua where after holding the pooja -archana a procession was taken out for immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha in Ravi canal with chanting of religious hymns.
Reports of performing culmination ceremonies of Ganesh festival came from Udhampur, Samba, Ramban and other towns and districts of Jammu region also.
