An Open letter to Heads of Indo-Pak

Sir,

Today on the eve of 'International Peace Day' as declared by the United Nation, I have a message for the Heads of the two countries of the Sub continent, India and Pakistan.

As an independent and sovereign countries both are the creation of Indian Independence Act 1947. And the fact is that to make it true was not just a momentous action which was given in Platter but the result of years and years of tireless efforts and in-memorable sacrifices of men and material. It was infact tryst with destiny. The founding fathers and great stalwarts of the countries wished to see the countries of their choice as the most blossoming and prosperous.

A considerable time has passed since then and how much has been achieved in that context is the main issue of the latter where I invite the attention of the Hon'ble Heads of the two countries and their policy makers.

Is it not a fact that both the countries are running in arrears of International Financial Organisations and are dependent on them for their sustenance?

It is not fact that for lack of adequate opportunities, facilities and infrastructures, there is a increasing number of Brain drain in both the countries? Their elders struggled for establishing their countries where their generations will grow to their fullest by using all resources and opportunities of which they were aggrieved of and lacking in the colonial period. But when it became possible, the people again have to look towards other countries to make true their dreams of prosperity and leave their own in this pursuit.

Is it not a fact that still a major chunk of their population is gropping in the darkness of illiteracy and ignorance?

Is it not a fact that thousands of their people die every year for lack of basic medicare facilities?

Is it not a fact that forty percent of their population lives below poverty line?

Is it not a fact that a large number of their diploma and degree holders are confused about their loans for lack of employment?

Besides these, there are plethora of other menaces where the two countries are sharing rich similarities not withstanding to that of cultural, lingual, social, religious and other common similarities.

After mentioning these grave problems which are eating into the very vitals of the two countries and are acting as potent blockades in their way of prosperity and development, a question that arises is 'who is responsible for this abject dismal scenario of the twin countries in the rating of prosperity and development? Where they have gone wrong which has entailed for them innumberble agonies and frustrations. I am of the opinion that the policy makers of both the countries are responsible for the problems which the common man of the countries face today. It is their unnatural, unrealistic, egoistic approach which presented an ample chance to the various problems to grow and spread their tentacles.

It is very unfortunate that from the day one of their emergence as the independent, sovereign countries on the map of the world, their policy makers instead of taking into account the various short-comings of the countries and formulating a policy which ultimately take them to high principles of honour and dignity got indulged in unhealthy crusade of ditching and defeating each other on all fronts and for that they put at stake their every thing. Different happenings in last fifty four years are testimony to this fact. And the fact is that it has happened and is happening at the cost of peace, progress and prosperity of the two countries and their country men. And even their filth which may have created by entering into a tug of war has jeopardised the peace of the world and now they are looking with curse over them.

Let's therefore, on the eve of International Peace Day, ponder over all such issues which I have tried to highlight briefly and realise their gravity by showing the concern they demand. Disputes are bound to rise in the living societies and even they are inevitable to come up in the family which lives under one roof. But they are not meant to destroy all bonds of relations altogether, but they are meant to be solved amicably and rationally. It is the principle of life and who soever goes contrary to it has to suffer every severely.

Time has come when both of the countries should make a review of their policies in the light of changing scenario of the world. You have enough to use and channelise for the better tomorrow of your countries and coming generations. Leave aside your belligerant politices and stubborn attitude and leave like good neighbours in the larger interest of peace which will ensure your millions of population a blissful and prosperous life and will lift high the status of the countries in the comity of nation. This is what for the International Peace day is celebrated with these words.

"A good neighbour is better than a good gun''.

Car parking old city

Sir,

Often the Traffic police van with a loud speaker goes around in the city asking car owners not to park their cars on the main road. For one thing, all roads in the city are main roads; even Purani Mandi or Jain Bazar are main roads. Smaller passages (Galis) are to narrow. For another, the few JDA parks are too full or too far away. Owners having houses along the so-called main roads have no where else to park. The norms applied by the traffic police are workable only in the new, properly planned colonies.

Either the old city dwellers should be banned from owning cars or the Traffic Police should be pragmatic and apply different norms.

Yours etc .....
