Work in tandem

Sir,

The people of Jammu are happy over the support to RSS to the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) an amalgam of a number of local parties in the forthcoming Assembly Election. This sudden change in the thinking of RSS is based on ground realities as Jammuites have suffered at the hands of the successive Kashmiri dominated Governments since 1947. This change in the thinking of RSS has also forced the BJP to review here rigid stand on the State of Jammu and Kashmir and it seems she also wanted to support the on going agitation for separate State for Jammu. But I personally, feel that the rigid attitude of JSM in sharing the seats for Assembly Election with BJP is not desirable. JSM should co-operate with the BJP to give fight to the NC otherwise the Jammuites will suffer and NC will eat the cake. No doubt the present circumstances are favorable to the votaries of JSM but if it does not work in tandem with BJP, its influence would get diminished. I would, therefore, suggest to JSM to give cooperation to the BJP in sharing the seats in the forth coming Assembly election. This is an acid test for the JSM and it should tread in the Assembly Elections with utmost care and caution. I may also let it known to the Jammuites that NC is determined to humble the forces of JSM at all cost. This is because of the unsympathetic attitude of the Central Government towards Jammuites and also because of divide and rule policy of the NC.

J&K Elections

Sir,

I want to draw the attention of Election Commission of India towards the Jammu & Kashmir elections which are scheduled to be held from 16th for the first phase of elections. Election Commissioner's personal visit to the State in the areas like Rajouri, Poonch shows the seriousness of the election commission for conducting polls in the State. I also welcome the efforts of election commission for deploying the people for polling duty from the U.P. State because these people have the expertise in conducting the polls on electronic voting machines as J&K is going for polls with the help of E.V.M. for the first time. Also election commission has declared that it will give enough security to the people who are contesting elections. Inspite of that independent candidate Sheikh Abdul Rehman has lost. After it militants killed Law Minister of J&K State. So E.C should give the security not only to the candidates but also to the people of J&K and people of U.P. who are here to help conduct the elections after their initial reluctance.

Environmental conscientiousness

Sir,

Man's quest for physical fitness dates back to the 6th century much before he took to the Olympic Tracks, as people in ancient Greece would rise well before dawn to take morning walk through the Olive Groves. In the present times early walkers try to find an outlet to their stressful life. Jammu has the fortune of some lovely tracks for the joggers but these suffer from neglect due to the callous attitude of the departments responsible for their upkeep. Take the Municipal Park at Canal Head that attracts thousands of men and women from all age groups for morning and evening walks. The Red Stone Pavement have sunk at most places and no body is bothered about repairing these. The trees that have fallen over years stand neglected and pose a serious hazard to the early walkers. The brick paved walkway constructed by JDA from Canal Head to Shakti Nagar crossing is equally used by thousands of morning walkers but the pavement exists in name only as the surface is worn out. It is not lack of funds but indifferent attitude towards the common man that is the cause of neglect. Assuming that the financial system in the State has collapsed, the local MP with enormous funds at his disposal could have thought of the people he represents but their welfare must never have crossed his mind. Mumbai is known as the city pockmarked by Chawls and the famous beaches have suffered due to man's indifferent attitude. But, amidst the man made debris, I have seen enormous interest generated by the environmental conscious people in building parks and keeping them safe even for aged and infirm. Surely there must be a few conscious citizens in Jammu who can join hands and think about how best Government can be made to do the things for the benefit of people and how best they can help the Government to maintain the parks and tracks that have become the life line for the health conscious people.
