Militants occupy Sogam forest after killing Minister

SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Defence Minister George Fernandes and his high ranking entourage were the target of Jehadis, operating from the dense forest overlooking Sogam village, in Kupwara district today. Their helicopter failed to land for about 10 minutes, amid heavy exchange of gunfire between militants and troops. The VVIP team was going to attend the funeral of the slain Minister of State Law, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, a day after he was eliminated by militants at a public meeting in Tikkipora village of Lolab........more
