Accept the Verdict-I

Sir,

The J&K Assembly poll results are full of surprises. The debacle of National Conference and BJP in the recent polls is as much a surprise at the success of the Congress Party, Peoples Democratic Party and others in the neck to neck fray. The poll results are hailed as a victory of democracy both at home and abroad. That is more so notwithstanding militants threats, coercion and bullets with consequent deaths and injuries to several hundred voters and some candidates. The defeat of the Ruling Apparatus is accounted for as due to nepotism, unemployment, non-development, scarcity of water electric power, insecurity and irresponsiveness of the Government to the public concerns and discriminate treatment. The BJP defeat is due to infighting, dissensions, division into splinter groups and lack of leadership. People wanted a change of guard as they were disillusioned with militancy which has aggravated people's woes, miseries, and poverty without any achievement. They are also not enamoured of the dynastic rule and politicians who exist for themselves and exploit the people. They want pro-people political leaders and not the ones who are obsessed with political power, un-ethics, their own pride and primacy. People are not also happy with the Congress and its dynastic and unholy rule. People are also unhappy with wily politicians and autocrats. It is unfortunate that there is no Gandhian religiousness, politics and humanism. As men and matters are there is but to make the best of choice in the battle of the ballot than to have no choice to change a dictatorial Govt. So we have the fractured poll verdict in the J&K. No political party has been given the mandate by the voters to form the Government on its own. No winning political party in inclined to coalesce with the National Conference with its even largest tally of 28 seats in the Legislature of 87 seats because of the wave of throwing it out of its dynastic rule. The Congress with 20 seats and the People's Democratic Party with 16 seats are chips of the same block. They have been hotly hob-nobing to cobble up a coalition Government with the support of like minded successful candidates in the rest of the kithy of Independents.

The problem with Congress and the PDP to form the Government is in rift on the question of Chief Ministership, each one laying claim on it for reasons well known. The Kashmir Leadership appears to be apprehensive that in case Chief Ministership is conceded to Congress (Ghulam Nabi Azad) and centre of power gravity will shift to Doda, Bhaderwah, Kishtwar, Jammu from Kashmir province. Notably, the Doda district of Jammu province will receive due attention having been neglected much in the past besides other areas in the Jammu and Ladakh regions. This will help to solve militancy problem appreciably and the cry of regional discrimination. The hurdle can be overcome by having alternate Chief Ministership from Jammu and Kashmir regions respectively as per arrangement in UP between BJP and BSP. All the three regions of the State are functional organs of the body politic J&K and need equal motherly attention. The voters have made a change of guard and reposed their trust in the newly elected legislators to usher in peace, progress and prosperity of the people.

Accept the Verdict-II

Sir,

The results of Assembly Elections have come before the public. No single party has got clear majority to form the Government. People have favoured a coalition Government and also a change. But we should not forget that it is again NC which has got the largest number of seats in comparison to other political parties. In current circumstances, it is the duty of the elected members to respect the people's verdict for peace. The members and parties should come above regionalism and think for the betterment of the State as a whole.

For the last twelve years, all the regions and communities of our State are suffering due to militancy. Now when people have once again voted for peace and security, it is not good for any party to harden their stand for the post of Chief Minister. The members should instead realise the sacrifices of thousands of citizens and about thousands who lost their homes, herths and precious lives. Here I may recall Mufti Sahib that people of Jammu have always stood by him especially when he was rejected even from his home constituency. The same people may be feeling badly for his anti Jammu stand regarding the post of Chief Minister. It is better for him to help in the formation of a democratic and secular Government. He has got an opportunity to prove himself secular politician. It is his moral duty to keep Kashmiriat alive for which whole world praises Kashmir. The prime concern should be to restore peace and prosperity than the post of CM.

In conclusion, I hope our elected members would come above, regionalism, communalism and all and soften their stands in selecting an able CM and the cabinet for the peace, prosperity and security of our State.
