Making mockery of revaluation

I

Sir,

On hearing the result, a student of B.Com Part-II of Jammu University was little bit disappointed. Little bit because he had still a hope-Revaluation. Actually he had got about 65 percent marks in Ist year and was among top ten students of that year. He had studied hard in IInd year as he was sensing a good chance to make it to top ten of Jammu University of 3- year degree course in commerce. But in the IInd year he had got 66 percent marks and was almost out of race. But expecting that his marks should be increased by 20 or so he went for revaluation. He got revaluated his two papers one of theory and other of practical. But his marks were decreased by 7 in one and decrease by 2 in other making it an overall decrease of 9.He was stunned. But he was a feeble hope-rechecking. Thinking that he can challenge the marks in practicals, he opted for rechecking of his practical paper. He was called to the university at an appointed date and time. On seeing the paper, he could pass only a helpless smile. In three practical questions of 12 each, he was given 6-7 marks in each because there was no mistake! Even in one practical question marks were deducted because revaluator thought that 10 percent of 300 is not 30. He asked the concerned authorities but they can't do anything for it. If this is a sad version of revaluation, there is a good version also. Marks of many students have been doubled and in some cases more than double. Thanks to M/s Revaluator for this.

Revaluation is a game of 5-6 marks. Both the persons who checks the paper and who revaluates the paper are, I guess, master of their subjects. So when a same answer sheet is checked by both of two the difference of marks should be between 5-7 and i.e. generally due to difference of opinion but here difference exceeds beyond 20. This has raised a question regarding the authenticity of the examination deptt. and Revaluation Deptt. of Jammu University. Now it has become a regular practice for students to revaluate the paper by giving Rs. 240/- for each paper taking it as a gamble.

In the last, I express my thanks to examination controller under whose guidance and supervision, papers have been conducted at proper time and results have been declared at right time so as to enable students of final year to pursue their further studies.

Making mockery of revaluation

II

Sir,

I would like to bring to your kind attention the faulty work of Revaluation. Department of Jammu University. I got 60 percent marks in B.Com II but was expecting about 65-66 percent marks. So I opted for revaluation. I revaluated my accounts paper thinking that my marks would get increased at least by ten to fifteen. But my marks were lowered by 15. I was very upset. Many of my frineds who failed in one subject or other have got their marks doubled. Even one of my friends was not expecting an increase of even two or three marks but his marks were increased from 18 to 36 out of 80. Then I went for other drama-rechecking. I saw my paper and got puzzled because I was unable to know where the marks have been deducted. It seemed that revaluator was in worst of his mood while checking my paper. There was no mark on the solutions and the answers were also correct but revaluator has given me five out 12 in most question. Prior to rechecking, I was told that marks would be increased only in two situations-one when total is wrong and other when question is unchecked. So my objection was over-ruled.

Prior to my admission in Jammu University, I was unable to understand why students of Jammu University went to some other universities for higher education. Now, I under stand why they leave Jammu University. They do not want their career and life to be hinged on the faults of callous evaluators.

Wake up Jammu

Sir,

This refers to the current impasse in the formation of Government in Jammu & Kashmir.

The claim of PDP that Chief Minister should be from Kashmir is uncalled for and unjustified.

If PDP thinks that soul of the Kashmiri people is bruised then it needs an introspection on their part who is responsible for that.

Who has played host to Pan Islamic Jehadies in Kashmir and brought the collatral damage to every sphere of life there. The devastation caused to the Kashmir and its people has been done by their leaders who themselves are enjoying their lives in comforts, have their wards studying in foreign lands, live by security provided by the Indian Govt but yet spew venom against the nation. If terrorism ever fades away these self styled leaders shall be rendered jobless. The people of Kashmir have to take these leaders to task for detroying the future of their one generation.

People of Jammu have always been discriminated inspite of bring ahead in terms of revenue collection more in population, larger in terms of area etc as compared to Kashmir.

Why Jammu should play a second fiddle to Kashmir?

We condemn the politicians from Jammu who keep mum, while interests of Jammu are being sabotaged.

The State is set for the separate State for Jammu and we expect a leader like Ghulam Nabi Azad to lead the movement. The Presidential rule in the only solution at present.

The outbrusts of some politicians from Valley against the possibility of a CM from Jammu not only depicts the age only exertion of Kashmir hagemony but an insult to Jammu.
