Hiranagar massacre

Sir,

Is Oct 2002, an election day, will go down as a black day in the history of Hiranagar, because on that very day 12 innocent people lost their lives and many were injured in an unexpected militants attack at Hiranagar Morh on the Jammu-Pathankot national highway. It is a hard fact that Tehsil Hiranagar has borne the burnt of Punjab militancy for atleast one decade, when it was used as a hub to smuggle arms and ammunition from Pakistan to our side Punjab. And since 1988 people are continuously bearing the intense heat of cross border firing losing one or two precious lives occasionally, but never like the carnage executed by the militants at Hiranagar Morh. This killing is really an eyeopener not only for the people of the area but also for the intelligence and security forces and demands permanent security cover in this border Tehsil.

Thank God the two of the three militants responsible for the massacre were spotted next day and eliminated in a well co-ordinated operation carried out by the security forces with active co-operation of the local people and administration, otherwise second strike was imminent by those terrorists. All those involved directly or indirectly in the operation deserve commendation. The only painful thing is that the success came at the expense of the life of our valiant Police Officer DSP Jagtar Singh, who laid down his life fighting the militants. "May God provide strength to the bereaved family".

Now the encounter is over and all eyes are no the third terrorist who is still atlarge hiding somewhere in the area. Besides, rumours are also in the airboat more militants in one locality or the other causing fear among the people and harming the efforts of security forces in tracking down the militants. Inspite of all rumours people need not to be panicky, only tranquility among the people of the area is paramount. So this is the time to be alert. If anyone finds any clue about the presence of terrorist in the area, should inform the security forces directly instead of making it to the public. I am sure this will definitely help in tracking down the remaining militants and bringing life back to normal.

Declare MEd results

Sir,

We, the MEd-I and II semester candidates of session (2001-2002) and session (2000-2001) respectively appeared in the MEd I & II Semester Examinations through Department of Distance Education, University of Jammu, Jammu on April 16, 2002 and July 31st 2002.

But, it is very much strange and surprising that the result of MEd II semester has been kept with held without any reason which is quite in contrast with the candidates who appeared in regular capacity in the said examinations on the same dates along with the candidates who appeared through Department of Distance Education.

Moreover, the result of MEd I Semester Examination Session (2001-2002) has not totally been declared as yet.

This delaying tactics has deprived many candidates of seeking jobs and promotions etc etc.

If may not be out of place to mention it here that a plain reading of the prospectus-cum-Admission form and the admission advertisement notices issued by the Director DDE, University of Jammu make it crystle clear that MEd is just one year course but it is sorry State of Affairs that practically it (MEd course) involves, takes (2-3) years due to the delaying tactics adopted by the concerned University authorities which is quite evident from the above and the last years MEd Ist Semester Examination result which was declared after a long delay of (09) months.

In view of the above, it is requested to the Controller Examinations & Director Distance Education University of Jammu, Jammu to kindly look into the matter and to declare the MEd I and MEd II semester Examination Results at an earliest date so that these candidates may not suffer any more for no fault on their part.
