For
railways only
Sir,
Jammu
being a last functional railway station
for entry to J&K and also because of
the armed forces deployment in the State,
Vaishno Devi and Amarnath Pilgrims it is
an accepted fact that Jammu railway
station always has an abnormal rush of
passengers. It therefore becomes a
paramount task of the railway authorities
to provide every possible assistance and
keep enhancing the facilities to
passengers. No doubt much has been done
after the rail head was shifted from
Pathankot to Jammu a lot is yet to be
dealt with for which a good number of
resources and sufficient funds are
available with the authorities.
In this
write up I am touching only two aspects
to be taken care on the top priority-
i)
Doubling the railway line from Jammu to
Jallandhar and
ii)
Convenient, adequate and corruption free
reservation at railway station Jammu.
For item
No. 1 few months back our Prime Minister
while announcing a special package for
J&K State had urged for the early
laying of the double rail line and a good
amount was placed at the disposal of the
concerned authorities but the entire plan
has so far remained untounced and it
seems the executing authorities have not
taken the project as urgent as was
expressed by the PM of India, otherwise
by now it could have taken some visible
shape on ground. Can the authorities show
a real concern on the need of the double
rail line and start the spadework now?
The second
point is more sensitive as inspite of the
fact that the facility of advance rail
reservation at Jammu station is
available, the public still faces
countless inconveniences, whose fault?
Definitely not of general masses because
one can always see them standing and
waiting for their turn in long queue for
hours together.
There are
16 windows available in the advance rail
reservation centre but hardly 6 to 8 are
made functional. Why all those existing
16 plus a few more windows can't be
opened to the public keeping in view the
need of the most essential facility. Why
a binding for the timing i.e. few windows
function only upto 1400 hours and on
Sundays also the reservation service is
cut short? When Indian rails can run day
and night why can't the reservation
window remain open round the clock
specially when we are using computers.
Finding countless hurdles and tremendous
amount of hardship in getting genuine
reservation, people by force get into
corrupt ways to do the required journey
and many just drop the idea of travelling
by rail.
My humble
request to the authorities is to ensure
that the staff engaged for giving
reservation tickets do not entertain any
person for indoor service which very
badly reflects upon the railways and
irritates hundreds of passengers standing
in front of the window in long long
queues.
Often it
is notice that this indoor (out of turn)
favours by the staff invites lot of
hooting, indiscipline cases and avoidable
quarrels causing lot of loss to railway
property and loss of time to the waiting
passengers.
Yours
etc...
