Mufti misquoted on centre: Spokesman

SRINAGAR, Nov 14: An official spokesman today appealed to the media to highlight the statements of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in the right prespective leaving no scope for misgivings.

Expressing concern over the distortion in the media of the Chief Minister’s reaction sought by some TV channels on the release of some political detenues, the spokesman said words like "avoid meddling in our affairs", "stay away from Jammu and Kashmir" and "rebuff to Advani" have been attributed to Mr Sayeed which he never said.

He said sections of the media have sought to present him in a belligerent mood.

The spokesman said in the entire question-answer session, Mr Sayeed did not make any such comment and surprisingly these have been used by a section of the press.

He said what he actually said was that the State Government was releasing political detenues as per its commitment to the people as also enshrined in the Common Minimum Programme.

The release are being made carefully and after due consideration with the hope that this would lead to the improvement in general situation, he said.

All that the Chief Minister said about the Centre was that it was aware of the ground situation in the state and that political detenues had earlier also been released and there was no reason for any concern, the spokesman said.

He said the coalition Government headed by Mufti Mohammad Sayeed was treading on a very delicate and difficult path of restoring peace and normalcy in the state.

Mr Sayeed wanted to take all sections of the society along with him to achieve this end, he said.

The media being the most powerful instrument to create public opinion was expected to consider the ground realities and help achieving the goal by avoiding any scope for speculation and misunderstanding, the spokesman noted. (UNI)

BJP alleges Govt carrying Hurriyat agenda

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 14: Accusing PDP-led coalition Government of carrying Hurriyat Conference’s agenda, former MLA and senior BJP leader Ashok Khajuria has said that release of dreaded militants on the name of political workers is a cruel joke with all those nationalist people who gave verdict in the favour of PDP, Congress and JKNPP.

Addressing a press-conference here today, Mr Khajuria said that all the nationalist people in the State gave chance to new people to run the State but at the very outset the coalition Government started releasing anti-national people, who had record of shedding blood of innocent people.

"The release of dreaded militants on the name of political workers is nothing else but a cruel joke with all nationalist people of the State, who continued to suffer the onslaught of terrorism for strengthening the State’s accession with rest of the country", the senior BJP leader said and added that even those persons whose detention period required to be increased under law, were released.

The former MLA further said that the coalition partners in the Government—Congress and JKNPP, who are calling themselves as real nationalist forces, have been justifying this move for the lust of power. "But the nationalist people of the State are not going to tolerate such steps and will teach parties in coalition Government a lesson", he said.

"The release of political prisoners should have been done after review of their cases by a high-level committee as was being suggested by Deputy Prime Minister Mr L K Advani", the senior BJP leader suggested and said that BJP will continue its fight for the sake of this State.

When asked about hailing of release of ‘political leaders’ by Kashmir unit of BJP, Mr Khajuria said at present there is no unit of party in Kashmir and Ladakh. Without naming convenor of BJP’s Kashmir Unit Fayaz Ahmed Bhat, he said the statements from individuals should not be considered as voice of BJP and added that Bhat was made the convenor of only adhoc committee, framed only for the elections.

"We are seeking clarification from the so-called Kashmir unit of party and disciplinary action could be taken against those who were working against the policies of party", he disclosed and said that BJP will soon finalise its future course of action.

He demanded making of permanent base camp of Amarnath Yatra at Exhibition Ground, implementation of SRO-72 in toto, opening of secretariat road, opening of Sanglan Wali Deyodi of Raghunath Mandir and disbanding of Custodian Department.

KP leaders demand reorganisation of J&K
PDP-led coalition is pursuing ‘dangerous’ policy

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 14: Taking strong exception to the policy of appeasement adopted by the Jammu and Kashmir Government towards separatists, subversives and militants, All Kashmir Pandit Solidarity Conference (AKPSC) and Panun Kashmir have posed: "If the fundamentalist militant forces which have spread terror and brought devastation to the State need a healing touch, how should their victims, thousands of them, who were massacred or uprooted be treated?"

A joint statement issued by the AKPSC president, Mr ON Trisal, and chairman of Panun Kashmir’s advisory committee, Dr MK Teng, here on Thursday voiced deep concern at what it termed as "disquieting developments" which followed the emergence of the Congress-People’s Democratic Party coalition Government in Jammu and Kashmir. Both Mr Trisal and Dr Teng lamented. "The coalition partners do not recognize that a bloody and devastating war of subversion has been in process in the State for the last 14 years, which has involved genocide of Hindus and uprooted the whole community of Hindus from Kashmir and the Muslim majority districts of the Jammu province and changed the entire social, political and economic character of the State".

The statement noted: "The coalition Government and its common minimum programme (CMP) are a reiteration of the old alienation theory which apologists for terrorism and militancy have conveniently used to conceal the real import of the war of attrition the fundamentalist and secessionist forces have been carrying on in the State with the active involvement of Pakistan".

The statement quoted Mr Trisal and Dr Teng as saying that the coalition Government’s claim to negotiate peace with the militants backed by Pakistan "is an overt message to all patriotic forces that not only the fundamentalists and secessionists enjoy precedence but Pakistan also enjoys a position of precedence in Jammu and Kashmir". No wonder, the AKPSC and Panun Kashmir decided to denounce what they described as "Muslim precedence as an undemocratic, anti-secular and oppressive policy".

The statement warned that policies inimical to the national interest will prove disastrous for the Jammu and Kashmir State and the country as a whole. It also warned that the "acceptance of Muslim precedence as the basis of State and society in Kashmir" will lead straight to the consolidation of separatist and secessionist forces, increase terrorist violence and provide wider ground for Pakistan to eliminate all resistance to the ongoing militancy in the State.

Both Mr Trisal and Dr Teng claimed: "Kashmiri Pandits do, in collaboration with the people of Jammu and Ladakh, demand the reorganisation of the State". Jammu and Ladakh, they sought to convey, need not suffer any more.

The PDP-led coalition Government was criticised by the two leaders for its "complete silence" over the rehabilitation of the displaced Kashmir Pandit community, living in exile for the last 13 years or so.
