Justice with Jammu

Sir,

Reference may be made to news item "PDP leaders plea to people of Jammu' that appeared in your esteemed Daily of 29.10.02 Different political organisations both loosers and winners of J&K Assembly elections 2002 have expressed the view points. The leaders of PDP from Jammu region as per above noted news have advised the people of Jammu to leave the path of confrontation, hartals and strikes etc. The advice is valuable, but one sided and needs more elaboration.

The leaders may be knowing from the past history of the State that people of Jammu always rendered full cooperation to the successive rulers of the State (all from Valley) right from 1947. Not only cooperation was rendered but great leaders like late S M Abdullah were worshipped like deities. So far confrontation is concerned, it was not confrontation but constructive opposition for seeking the redressal of grievances of the people of Jammu Region who have been denied their rightful share in all respects i.e. development, political, economical, employment at all times. What were the circumstances which compelled the people of Jammu to launch an agitation in 1952-53 which led to the sacrifices of Dr. S P Mukherjee and many young comrades from Hiranagar and Jaurian compelling Mr. Nehru to dethrone S M Abdullah.

The discrimination with Jammu people is continuing but they always scarified their interests for the unity, welfare and integrity of State and country. Strikes, hartals and agitations are an important and necessary ways of expression of grievances by the people in democracy. When neglected by the ruling class and should not be taken otherwise.

It is greatness of Jammu people who have now again sacrificed the post of Chief Minister and helped in formation of the Government under Mufti Mohd Sayeed, is not it cooperation?

May God, good sense prevail upon new dispensation and they do justice with all regions and it is hoped that PDP leaders of Jammu may use their influence to act for Jammu. The following are urgently required to be done:-

* Creation of more Assembly seats on 50:50 basis

* Equal share for Jammu youth in all future recruitments

* Equal share in allotment of all funds.

* Implementation of recommendations of three commissions i.e Sekar, Gagendargadker and Wazir Commission.

* To maintain the balance of employees of all categories in the Civil Sectt. at the ratio of 50:50 both from Jammu and Kashmir Divisions.

* Granting citizenship rights to refugees of 1947-65 and 71.

* Cancellation of resettlement bill and autonomy. The people of Jammu shall warship the new administration as their leaders.

The defeat of forces which demand justice for Jammu in recent Assembly elections has provided them time to introspect, learn from the mistakes, unite and stand more forcefully to achieve the goal.

VIP movement

Sir,

The day Civil Secretariat moves to our Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu & Kashmir, the movement of the VIPs starts from airport and the process continues for the next six months. As is customary, the supporters of these VIPs assemble at outside the airport to receive and honour them. In the process, it creates problems for the common man. There are traffic jams, long queues of vehicles honking horns, virtually creating hell. At moments, people face the wrath of police which is supposed to maintain law and order. Instead of solving problems, these VIPs creates problems for the people. However, administrations cannot solve this problem itself. It require the cooperation of politicians. Always has to be found out. One way can be to find an place where these functions can be organised. This should have no link with the common man.

My request to the Chief Minister, Mr. Mufti Mohammad is to ponder over this suggestion, so that common man suffers no more.

Yours etc...

PDD deserve thanks

Sir,

It has become a fashion, now-a-days to criticise the public utilities services viz. DDD and PHE whenever a chance comes. We the public at large, hardly realize our duties and responsibilities towards public utilities such as PDD, PHE or traffic police. We often keep our fans and lights on when they are hardly needed during mornings or day time. We often keep our water taps no, on the premises or plots of land yet to be occupied. We often go on the wrong side at peak hours on the busy traffic junction. Ninety percent of Jammuites overtake a vehicle on the left side instead of right side. When an accident occurs we simply blame traffic police for dereliction of duty least caring for our speed or apathy towards other citizens. We are simply extremely selfish whether on road or with electricity or with water. None else can help Jammuites in law-abiding.

Now let me come to the voltage problem which the residents of sector 2 of Channi Himat Colony were facing for the last 5 years. We the residents have left no stone unturned to get a transformer sectioned in sector 3. After the same was sanctioned, the PDD went into action and got the transformer, installed and commissioned in the shortest possible time. Previously, we had input voltage of 60 volts at peak hours and now 180-190 volts at peak hours. For this, we should not hesitate to appreciate the untiring efforts of the concerned officers.
