Foundation
stone of SKUAST hostel laid
Mufti for extensive research
in agricultural sciences
for boosting productivity, returns
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU,
Nov 9: Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed
today called for extensive research in
agricultural sciences and stressed on
diversification of farming for optimum production
and remunerative returns.
Speaking at a
function after laying foundation stone of a girls
hostel at the campus of Sher-e-Kashmir University
of Agricultural Sciences at R. S Pura near here
this evening, the Chief Minister said
agricultural sector has emerged as a major
activity in recent years that has resulted in the
green revolution in the country.
He, however,
regretted that much headway has not been achieved
in per hectare production in the state compared
to neighbouring state like Punjab. He said he was
told that against 40-quintal yield per hectare in
Ludhiana, the crop production in the state was
just half of it, better fertility of land
notwithstanding. This scenario has to be changed
by acquainting farmers on latest techniques and
developing high yielding varieties of different
crops. I believe R. S Pura, the Basmati
bowl of the state, has the potential to be a
model for the whole state, he said while
recalling his affinity with the place from where
he contested assembly elections years back.
Mr Sayeed said
that agricultural students should be imparted
field experience in a big way enabling them to
advice the farming community on latest methods.
For this extension programmes should be planned
and awareness campaign launched. He said at least
one demonstration center should be established in
each village for farmers to know the advancement
in cropping, benefits of using inputs as per
prescribed limits etc.
The Chief Minister
observed low productivity in certain cases could
be the offshoot of fragmentation and division of
land holdings and lack of knowledge about
fertilizers and seeds. This aspect has to be
taken into consideration while planning schemes
for boosting the production.
He eulogized the
efforts made over the decades to boost
agriculture production in the country, saying
that the days are gone when the nation was
dependent on imports from US etc. But, he said,
even though the godowns are filled with
foodgrains, poverty stricken people have no
purchasing capacity. This imbalance needs to be
removed, he opined.
Mr Sayeed also
referred to diversification of crops in certain
parts of the state and said this has transformed
the economic conditions of farmers. He laid
stress on setting up of agro-based industries
that could immensely benefit the farming
community.
About the
sufferings of border farmers who are forced to
abandon their holdings during disturbed
conditions, the Chief Minister said something has
to be done for them. He said that instructions
have been issued for disbursement of relief to
such farmers that has already been sanctioned and
released by the Centre. Of the sanctioned Rs 30
crore, about Rs10 crore have already been
released, he added.
Deputy Chief
Minister, Mr Mangat Ram Sharma also spoke on the
occasion and said that the setting up of the
Agriculture University in Jammu will go a long
way in fulfilling the needs of students desirous
of pursuing education in agricultural sciences.
He referred to the setting up of a Technical
University by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board
and said the state is well placed with five
universities.
Mr. Sharma urged
the people to involve themselves in
socio-economic transformation of the state that
has full backing of the NDA Government and
Congress. He exuded confidence in the talent of
state administration and said that the officers,
irrespective of their regional affiliations,
could play constructive role in the development
of the state.
Giving the resume
of activities of the university, its Vice
Chancellor, Prof H U Khan said that it runs BSc
agriculture, B.V.Sc and Animal Husbandry
programmes at undergraduate and post-graduate
levels and offer M.Sc Agriculture and Ph.D degree
courses in selected disciplines of agricultural
sciences at PG level.
Mr Khan said the
university intends to increase the number of
disciplines in agricultural sciences and
introduce Masters programme in selected
disciplines of veterinary sciences. He said
efforts are underway to upgrade hostels, sports
and medical facilities for the students.
Laboratories and lecture halls are being equipped
with required studies inputs.
The VC said that a
main campus comprising central offices of the
university, college of agriculture, college of
horticulture and forestry and college of basic
sciences and humanities are being proposed at
Chatha, where besides 1029 kanals of land has
already got transferred from the animal husbandry
department, about 3583 kanals of additional land
is also being acquired.
Earlier, the Chief
Minister laid the foundation stone of the girls
hostel that is being constructed at a cost of Rs
1.99 crore. The project is being funded under the
Development Grant of ICAR and will have 34 single
seater rooms, 45 double seater rooms and 16 rooms
with bathroom and kitchens attached. About 140
students would be accommodated in the hostel.
The Chief Minister
stressed on increasing the intake capacity of
hostels that would provide academic atmosphere to
the students thronging from various parts of the
state. He also called for landscaping of the
adjoining premises in advance.
Mr Sayeed also
released two publications of the university on
package of practices on Kharif and Rabi crops
2002.

Commissioner, Agriculture, Mr. Mohammad Shafi
Pandit, senior officers, faculty members and
students were present on the occasion.

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU,
Nov 9:

Medical College and Hospital in connivance with
the employees unions has been launching canards
against him over alleged assualt of a Laboratory
Technician.
Addressing a
press-conference, Mr Manhas said that he
dont have any personal grudge against any
of the person in the administration but he is
against favouratism and slackness towards the
medicare.
"I always
raised voice against any wrong doing and
injustice to the patients that is why hospital
administration wants me to remain out of the
institution so that they were not exposed",

Laboratory Techincian in the Blood Bank few days
back was the plan of the hospital administration
to defame him.

some attendants of the patient of Bed Number-51
of Ward Number-5 approached Laboratory Technician

Inclusion
of Soz for RS seat betrayal with Jammu: Bhim
Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU,
Nov 9:
Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers
Party (JKNPP) Prof Bhim Singh today said that
Congress (I) has failed to stand on its
commitment to distribute one seat each of Rajya
Sabha to all the three partners of the coalition
Government.
Addressing an
executive body meeting of party, Prof Singh said
that inducting Prof Saifuddin Soz from the
Kashmir valley was a betrayal of the people of
Jammu, who had given a massive mandate to the
Panthers Party without whom the coalition
Government would not have been conceived.
"Had we been
aware of that Congress would betray Jammu people,
National Panthers Party (NPP) would have not
extended unconditional support to it", Prof
Singh said and added that Congress has been
living in realm of fantasy that it is the real
representative of the Jammu people as National
Panthers Party received wide-spread support from
the public during the just concluded Assembly
elections from Jammu region.
Prof Singh said
that Panthers Party feels highly proud on
withdrawing claim for Rajya Sabha seat to allow a
consensus to flow at its own cost and added that
right from the process of coalition Government
formation in the State, Congress has betrayed
Jammu people.
"The State
Congress has done nothing while finalising Common
Minimum Programme (CMP) and it was only Panthers
Party which got included the issue of creation of
Delimitation Commission, implementation of Wazir
Commission Report, adequate relief to all types
of refugees and inclusion of Dogri language into
the 8th Schedule of the Constitution", he
claimed and thanked Mrs Sonia Gandhi for helping
him in getting all these issues included in CMP.
Whatelse NPP can
give to the people of Jammu region through the
power of four MLAs as compared to Congress, which
won 20 seats, he said and added that National
Panthers Party (NPP) was betrayed twice since the
Government formation in the State. "What to
talk of Rajya Sabha seat even out Best
Legislature Mr Harsh Dev Singh was only given
School portfolio, which is nothing else but a
joke", he said.
Claiming that
National Panthers Party can lead to fall of the
present State Government, he said that it is for
the first time that Jammu region was brought on
the map of the State Government, which major
political parties like Congress and BJP could
not. "I am very disappointed that people are
still behind those parties, which always befooled
them", the visually angered Prof Singh said
and added that he will continue his fight for the
cause of Jammu till his last breath.

Sharnam Ashram, Janipur Jammu in connection with
Sadhna Satsang from November 7 to 13.
As per a release
today while delivering the discourses depicting
on Vedas Shree Brahmchari said that the God is
one and only one. Rivers trees, mountains and
stones are having their importance but these are
not God.
While explaining
the power of Almighty, Shree Maharaj explained to
devotees that by now it has been proved by
scientists that Moon is itself a land. Similarly
there are many moons, Suns, oceans, skies and
planets and each and every thing has been
maintained in disciplined manner by Almighty God.
The Brahmchari
said that God is universal sustainer, refulgent
like Sun, subtle than the subtler and far behind
the darkness of ignorance. The maharaj further
explained that eyes, brain and mind do reach the
God but God can only be realized through awakened
soul.
The Brahmchari
said we should after obtaining the Naam
from respected Guru have to contemplate the name

NAAM, to awaken the soul and through
the awakened soul we can realize God to get
