Great expectations from Govt

Sir,

We, the residents of Krishna Nagar (Exten) opposite Brij Nagar Miran Sahib Tehsil R S Pura have great expectations from new Government.

Just about one Km from the Balol Bridge on the left hand side a sign Board reads; "Brij Nagar-Singh Pura road length 1.5 Kms agency PWD" was reacted by the Public Works Deptt. early this year on Jammu R S Pura Road.

Earlier the work of the road was taken up when unfortunately it was stopped due to some stay order. The stay order was vacated by the Hon'ble Court in August 2000 with the direction to resume the work of the construction of road and pay the compensation to the land owners.

Inspite of the persistent follow up by the residents, the work has not been resumed nor the compensation has been released in favour of the land owners. It seems the vested interest associated with the previous Govt. denied the resumption of work on the proposed road. The funds sanctioned by the Finance/Planning Deptt. to the extent of 9.80 lacs during Governor rule (1990-96) have been misappropriated by way of diverting these funds to other works probably in Jammu city.

The callous attitude of the previous Government has led to many difficulties to the people of area particularly in the rainy days. The water accumulated during the monsoon reason this year is still there. The horrible scene of the road cannot be described in black and white.

It is requested to the Chief Minister to direct the concerned authorities to resume the work on the proposed road forthwith so that the work is completed before the close of current financial year.

People of the area also request the CM to pay his personal attention to our request for mitigating our problems.

Settle problems amicably

Sir,

The recent hostage crisis in the music theatre of Moscow was a shameful and disgustful act against the innocent civilians. It was a henious crime against the humanity. The lives of about eight hundred people, including, men, women, young and old were desperately put in danger. It has brought a bad reputation to those who were behind this unlawful episode. Such acts of cowardice don't serve any cause. Instead, they aggravate the trouble situations.

Inside the theatre, the living conditions were deteriorating and the hostages were forced to spend three days and nights without the basic amenities. They were forcibly landed in a tough and terrifying situation for no fault of theirs. This is unprecedented in the history of mankind. No religion on earth ratifies such a violation of human values. Taking innocent people to hostage is an inhuman and brutal act.

Violence and wars are no solution to any dispute. It is only through peaceful dialogues that disputes can be addressed or resolved between nations. What is more tragic is the death of the innocent hostages, due to the toxic gas that was pumped into the besieged hall. This gruesome event has sent a wave of terror through the peace loving populations of the world.

Act tough

Sir,

The politician in India at times like this becomes weak whenever any national crisis erupts, reason our own people. They instead of supporting the Government will start crying for the safety of their relatives. To top it all our opposition parties along with the press also does not support this kind of action. Because they dont want to be responsible for the country. We can not take initiatives unless some thing like this happens some where in the world. Now onwards I am sure our Govt. will also act tough, no matter what the pressure is. Remember Dr.Raj Kumar kidnap episode by Virapan, where the father of a slained inspector had to go to court to stop the release of criminals in exchange of Raj Kumar. Similarly, Govt. is doing what we want. If atleast one person in one billion act responsibly then this kind of problem will never occur. So, wake up Indian people, open your eyes to the world. Ready for sacrifice, next time it might be me, you or some one in your family. Just blaming Vajpayee or Advani will be a cowardly act.

Copying menace

Sir,

The days have gone when copying in the Examination was almost absent in its magnitude. The whole Examination process used to be smooth up to the final stage. Maintenance of Secrecy used to be the chief motto in the despensation. The work culture was almost upto the mark. Now the work culture seems eroded. There is change in the style of work and the trend is alarming.

The recent scam as revealed in the Daily Excelsior is an eye opener for all of us. The situation is dangerous to the extent that it has shaken the students community in particular and the people in general. The involvement of some board officials is a matter of grave concern. They are the custodians of our student community but have failed miserably in the deliverance of justice. Our confidence and trust reposed in them has been shattered. The invigilators who wanted to become rich overnight without least caring for the students burning mid night oil. The threat placed before the student community is a thing to be thought upon. If it is not stopped at this stage, it will prove fatal for our progeny. It is a matter of serious concern for all of us. We should rise and identify the loopholes in the larger interests of our student community. Our investigating agency is doing commendable job in the matter. Such a major scam by no means could be possible without the connivance of the Board officials at higher stage also. A thorough probe is need of the hour. The culprits are to be identified and punished as per lord of the land. Otherwise the menace of copying will be distrous for us. We stand answerable to our coming generation too.
