Strengthen the State

Sir,

Elections are over and the people of Jammu and Kashmir have declared their final verdict without any hesitation and fear. Now it has become the duty of elected members to form the popular Government keeping aside their personal interest and greed of chair. They have been elected by the people of Jammu and Kashmir to serve the people for the betterment of State in every respect. They are supposed to create confidence and trust among the people of the State. A great shock prevails among the people of State to see that elected leaders are adamant to divide the unity of Jammu and Kashmir by creating regional differences and boundary among the people.

The Governor rule seems not good in a State of the great and large democratic country. It means the great weakness of elected members of the Assembly. It clearly appears from the prevailing situation in the State that the elected leaders have forgotten the great contributions and sacrifices of the great heroes, like Maharaja Gulab Singh, General Zarawar Singh and Gen. Bagh Singh who had laid the foundation of the State and created praiseworthy unity among the people of Jammu and Kashmir covering the area of more than 85,000 sq. miles.

Jammu and Kashmir occupies special importance in our country and its unity creates unique impact all over the country and the world. I therefore, approach to the elected leaders that they must unite to form the desired Government in the State.

Ghulam Nabi Azad CLP leader, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Chief of PDP and Mehbooba Mufti Dy. Chief PDP are leaders of the people of Jammu and Kashmir not the leaders of a particular region of the State. They are supposed to strive for the general betterment of the whole State. They must become the main source to strengthen the unity of the State.

Jammu city beset with problems

Sir,

Jammu city is called the City of Temples and some have recently given it the name as city of Fast Food Restaurants due to the mushrooming growth of such restaurants. Moreover the city is growing rapidly, so is its problems, whether it is traffic management, pollution control of law and order, everything is in disarray. Let us take the case of traffic management, everybody knows how traffic is managed in the city. Firstly you will not see traffic policemen in sufficient numbers at important, busy crossings. If there happens to be any traffic policeman at a crossing, he is looking as a mute spectator.

Pollution is another alarming problem in Jammu city. The exhaust emissions particularly from trucks, buses and matadors is so alarming that our pollution control board is doing nothing about it. It was asked to show pollution under control certificate on two occasions while driving in my 1999 model car but what about these overloaded trucks which are emitting the huge quantity of black smoke, polluting the whole surrounding environment. The inhalation of such a polluted air is highly dangerous for all of us because it causes various kinds of lung diseases. But who cares about all these things. Now-a-days there is heavy rush of patients at the hospitals/clinics of chest diseases doctors and a major contributor for this is alarming pollution levels.

Our State may also be at number one position in the country in terms of power, water thefts and illegal constructions. Majority of power, water connection in our State are illegal, which is known to one and all. But the Government is not doing enough to legalise all these illegal connections. This is because the employees of the concerned department get monthly HAFTHA from these illegal connection holders. Similar is the case with water thefts. It you have to get a new water connection, you can get the work done by employing a private plumber and the departmental Lineman will demand for his share of money. You can see people have drilled holes on the main water pipes, if it happens to be above ground level particularly near Juggi basties and water flows there like fountain and moreover through these open holes, water also gets contaminated but who cares because law enforces are non-existent here.

All this is due to the alarming levels of corruption here because all these law enforcers know that by implementing the laws, they are not going to earn money while as by forcing people to break laws, they can earn like anything. So it is requested to the concerned authorities and citizens of Jammu to reverse this trend. Otherwise lawlessness may prevail in every sphere of the society.

Victory of people of J&K

Sir,

Wars can be won even without actually fighting it out as the present deployment & withdrawal of the Indian armed forces on the borders has shown.Successful completion of the elections in J&K which has been single greatest achievement. The credit must go more to the people of the Valley who participated whole heartedly in the elections inspite of threats & boycott calls -than to any one else. The people have rejected violence & bloodshed in favour of democracy. In our neighbourhood the power would always remain with the armed forces whether in uniform or in Mufti. This side it could be Abdullahs or Muftis- with real power remaining with the people.

Problems can solved only in environment of peace rather than under the shadow of foreign guns. The new Government must provide healing touch to end alienation & take up massive development schemes to usher in progress.
