Anjuman pays tributes to Kaifi Azmi Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 12: Anjuman Farogh-e-Urdu, Jammu and Kashmir, Jammu in its weekly meeting presided over by Mr Malik Ram Anand, president, paid rich tributes to Kaifi Azmi, a renowned legendary poet and doyen of Urdu poetry who died at Mumbai on May 10 after a prolonged illness. Kaifi was, besides Sardar Jafri, Majrooh Sultanpuri and others of the ilk, a torch bearer of progressive writers/ poets. He felt the agony of peasantry and labour class and the down trodden people right from his early life and devoted his poetry to highlight their plight and for their upliftment. Kaifi Azmi wrote extensively against injustice, brutality, intolerance and communalism. He spread the message of oneness, humanity, brotherhood and tolerance through his poems. He ruled over Bollywood for more than five decades as a poet, lyricist and dialogue writer. He had changed whole concept of songs in films. His songs are just to be listened and admired. He was, perhaps the last poet of the Progressive Writers Movement who enriched Urdu poetry. For his contributions, Kaifi Azmi shall be ever remembered along with his contemporaries. Kaifi Azmi wanted to see India as a socialist country where he would wish to breathe his last after having born in slave India and brought up in Independent India. He felt sorry, as per remarks of some of his colleagues, that he is not fortunate to die in socialist India. He left this world having said: Kar Chale Hum Fida Jano Tan Saathiyo; Ab Tumhare Hawale Watan Saathiyo. Speaking on the occasion Malik Ram Anand said by the death of Kaifi Azmi at the age of 83 years, a glorious era of Urdu poetry has come to an end. He observed, as other members of the Anjuman, that the loss Urdu world has suffered may not be compensated. It was prayed that may the soul of the departed poet of par excellence rest in eternal peace and may the bereaved family bear the loss. Two minutes silence was observed in memory of the departed soul. Mr Sham Talib read out his short story "Silsila", which pertained to a person who is in search of a partner who could understand him and his real feelings. He remains unsuccessful in his pursuit. It was resolved that in future the timings of the Anjuman meetings shall be from 1000 hours with effect from May 1 to the end of September and from 1100 hours with effect from October to ending April. No meetings shall be held in the month of June. A long discussion took place regarding the function of the Anjuman and its office bearers and other members. Main speaker was Maharaj Krishan. Others who took part included Amin Sabunia, Mohd Sultan Arif, Khurshid Kazmi and Malik Ram Anand. JM picks up nallahs for mechanised desilting Excelsior Correspondent Jammu, May 12: Jammu Municipality has taken a risky but calculated step of moving its loader-cum-excavator into the citys most critical and flood prone Shakti Nagar nallah to desilted. This is for the first time that machinery has been moved into the Shakti Nagar nallah whose both abutments stand encroached by the residents over the years leaving no space for keeping the desilted mulba. Running against time, as senior municipal authorities feel that there could be rains in view of the prolonged spell of heat waves lashing Jammu, Municipality is not taking any chance with rains as this nallah prone to inundate adjoining habitation. Ironically Jammu Municipality prays for delayed rains, much against the prayers of citizens because they could not desilt the nallah during last 3-4 months for want of funds. However, residence complained that nallah was not properly desilted by the Municipal authorities for the last 2-3 years and situation did not take a worse. Jammu did not have good monsoons during the last two years. To make good the loss of time Administrator, Jammu Municipality, Mr. K.B. Jandial ultimately gave his nod to the plans of Engineering and sanitation authorities to use machinery instead of labour for desilting the nallah. For this purpose, a temporary ramp of gunny bags was created . One of the pullies on the nallah in Shakti Nagar and moved down into the nallah one of its loader-cum-excavator. Since then the work is going on war footing. Mr. Jandial who is personally supervising the operation, is satisfied with the result. During the last two and half days more than 200 truck loads of desilted mulba has been removed. The Municipal authorities said that this much work would have taken not less than one month. If usual practice of manual labour was persuade this time also. There is a big element of risk also in this operation. If rain comes during night, the ramp made in the nallah would create obstructions in the inundated nallah. To meet this challenge, the Administrator has asked his technical staff to immediately reach the site alongwith staff to remove the ramp and also the loader which has been kept there for operation. The Administrator as well as residents of Shakti Nagar who are otherwise satisfied with the operation, are keeping their fingers crossed. The rain God may give them 2 more days to clear this stretch. |

21st Shyama Sammoha Havan performed by Swami Paul Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 12: The 21st havan of 101 Shyama Sammoha Havan Samaroha has been performed by Swami Paul Ji at a disciples place here today. The Havan has been undertaken by the Swami Pauls Meditation Home Jammu under which 101 havans are to be performed at different places of disciples for their welfare and success. A large number of disciples and devotees participated in the havan with ritualistic fervour. Addressing the gathering on the occasion Swami Ji expressed happiness over the overwhelming involvement of the devotees for participation in havans and said that their whole hearted participation in such religious and spiritual works would attract the blessings of Godess Gayatri for achieving health, happiness and success in their lives. Underlining the significance of the positive "will"in human behaviour , growth of moral and religious values and achievement of success and happiness Swami Ji said that the will forms the basis of hope and inspiration in man and builds up faith on values for the real development of mental and physical personality. Therefore it is essential that the Will in positive way should be strengthened by practice, he added. He further said that for strengthening of will systematic practice of concentration and self control is required. Will force is bound to be dissipated when the mind runs after too many things at a time. A mind agitated with too many thought waves can not be fixed at any object with unflinching devotion. Such a mind has to be calmed through the process of meditation so that the mental energy is conserved before the mind flows mightily in any given direction with the support of the will, he added. He said the training of mind for focusing the energy on achievement of of one particular object is dependent upon the will power which can be harnessed by practice of concentration. Similarly the self control is a healthy experience of the will against the baser instinctive impulses which undoubtly help develop the will considerably, Swami Ji added. He said that our ancient found the strengthening of will essential for character building. In the light of our ancient teachings, we should attach more importance to character building. A man of character will loftily and honestly and has the firmness to execute his will effectively inspite of resistance from within or that arising from external reasons. Character means training of will, which implies strengthening the will and directing it properly. Besides giving proper direction to the will man should seek heartfull of love for God and fellow human beings. Swami Ji further said that man should constantly engage in the chastening of heart and inspire himself with love and noble sentiments. Love excavates the channel along which the will flows. Love for flesh, lucre and fame determines the will path of the ordinary man of the world, while love for God, community country and humanity directs the will of noble souls, he added. He said a man is said to be elevated in proportion as his love for his little self is replaced by a higher form of love from their little self to higher and higher spheres. Swami Ji explained that love for God enables man to forget the worldly worries and miseries and reap real contentment and joy. The transformation of mind to ignore the worldly charms as well as the miseries to enjoy the presence of God. Almightys hand in the result of each action of man and love for God bestows upon man the unique contentment in life. Thus for solution of worldly problems and disturbances one should embrace the path of God. |

Excelsior Correspondent JAMMU, May 12: Swami Shri Hari Chaitnya Puriji Maharaj has said that Dharma is one in the world but sects or religions may be different. The ways of preaching may be different in each religion but the God is one. Talking to media-persons during a religious functions at Rehari Colony here today, Chaitnya Puriji said that humanity should be considered as the only religion in this universe because humanity is far above any religion whether it is Hinduism, Islam or Christinity. The people should rise above their narrow bonds of their own self created sects/ religions and understand the true religion. The country is today passing through critical juncture and terrorism has gripped not only J&K or other parts of the country but also the entire world. The situation in Gujarat and ugly developments there are shocking for everyone. " We pray to God that good sense may prevail in the minds of the people indulging in arson, looting, bloodshed and peace may be restored to these areas." Without naming any party or the group, Swamiji at the same time appealed the political parties not to throw ghee in the fire for their vested interests to flare up communal tension. No religion neither Hinduism nor Islam teaches to indulge in killings. Even those who claim themselves as great Muslims and encourage/ exploit youth to lift guns and motivate them for so called Jehad in J&K, are not true Muslims. The Holy Quran never taught killings of innocent and poor people," Swamiji maintained. Referring to the terrorism in Kashmir, Swamiji said that change is the rule of nature, therefore, the situation in Kashmir is also going to be changed soon. Enough blood has been shed there and peace will get restored here very soon. He said the same words he had expressed last year when he visited the state and after the unfortunate development of World Trade Centre collapse in USA the world understood the threat of terrorism and a large number of countries have joined hands to fight out this menance. The people have realised it and have started working against this evil spreading in the society. "We are first human beings, then Indians and thereafter the Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains or Christians." It is responsibility of the Saints to give right direction and suggestions to the society and the Government but the present Government could not take some hard decisions in the interest of the nation and its people. As long as the vested interests vote politics would come in the way, the rulers would not be able to make the country strong and maintain the national interest at the top and keep the countrys honour in right perspective. The time has come to take some hard decisions by the rulers at the Centre and national interest should be priority, otherwise the people of this nation would not spare them. Responding to a question regarding mobilisation of forces on the border, Swamiji said the country is strong enough to face any challenge. " We as Indians would never prefer war, our sanskriti and culture is most civilised and has great recognition in the world. We would like to resolve issues through peace process but if anybody dared to turn a bad eye towards our country, the youth Shakti of this great nation would not hesitate to give supreme sacrifice for the honour of the Bharat Maa," he maintained. Meanwhile, Swami Chaitnya Puriji addressed huge religious gathering at Brahman Sabha, Parade Ground here today. In his discourse, he asked the people to make their life happy and true by path of truthfulness and true service to humanity. He said if out action is not appreciable we are led by narrow gains and self interest. This will make our life full of misries. The happiness of luxuries etc is short-lived. We can only be happy by preaching God, delivering good to others and true and selfless service to the humanity. He is happy who is away from worldly attractions. Love human beings, nature and every creation of the God. Spread the message of peace, love and brotherhood and respect the religious sentiments of each person. But remember, humanity is the only religion in the world. |

As per a release, the meeting also passed a resolution in which the alleged anti Hindu policies of State Government were strongly condemned. In its scathing attack on State Government the VHP said after succeeding in hounding out the Kashmiri Hindus and Sikhs from the Valley, a drive has been launched by the ISI on one hand and the NC Government on the other to force the Hindus to migrate from Jammu region too. It said while the ISI is working on gameplan and it is engaged in selective killings of Hindus and burning down of their properties, the NC Government is supplementing their task by indulging in harassment of the minorities through various means.
