Power cuts in Satwari

Sir,

I wish to draw the attention of PDD Deptt. towards the regular power cuts in Satwari. The power cuts in this area are totally different from rest of the Jammu city. The evening cuts are 7 p.m to 8.30 p.m.,8:30 p.m to 10:00 p.m. and from 10:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. These cuts cause a lot of problems to the residents of that locality especially the students. Students have to appear in various competitive examinations. Secondly due to the disturbance these cuts may prove harmful. Thirdly it causes problems to the patients. Let me remind the power authorities that there are no power cut after 10'o clock in other areas. So I on the behalf of the residents of Satwari request to the higher localities to kindly look into this matter seriously. Hoping for a favourable action.

Cybercafes fleece users

Sir,

I would like to bring to the notice of authorities the unfriendly and callous nature of cyber cafe owners. True, that cafe owners have suffered some loss due to closure of cafes over past five months but that does not mean that they have licence to fleece the customers. Over night they have revised rates from Rs. 30/- to Rs. 50/- which is almost double than what it used to be five months ago. Earlier some cafe owners used to give service at the rate of Rs. 20/- an hour also but now the association of these Cafe owners have issued a rate-list wherein the rates are fixed at Rs. 50/- an hour. These people are forcing many cafe owners to obey the same and charge as decided by the Association. There are rumours that they will revise it to Rs. 60/- an hour after some time.

I wonder whether the Government has allowed them a field day so that they can do whatever they like. It is high time that the authorities should intervene and fix the rates after checking up with the neighbouring States of Punjab, Haryana and Delhi where the rates do not exceed more than Rs. 20/- an hour. Hope authorities would look into the matter.

Security risk

Sir,

This is to bring into the notice of Army authorities and the Jammu Municipality that the proposed walk-over project to be constructed right at the entrance to Jammu cantonment, where the Presentation Convent School situates may prove a security risk. As and when this walk over project is completed, it shall provide a good spot to terrorists to shoot at any VIP or take school children hostage for getting their illegal demands met.

I hope that some body shakes the security agencies and Jammu Municipality to come out of slumber, realise the danger of having walk over project at a place where it is being built and propose its construction at a place away from the present proposed site so that such danger could be avoided.

Constituencies in exile

Sir,

It is in reference to the letter "No cure in constituencies in exile" written by Mr. Sunil Bhat, that appeared in your esteemed paper dated 30/4/2K. In its writing Mr. Bhat has been very critical of Mr. K L Chowdhary for his demand of "Constituencies in exile". After the careful study of the article I have reached to the conclusion that Mr. Bhat has gone to the extreme in levelling allegation against Dr. Chowdhary. As a matter of fact, Mr. Bhat has every right to discuss about the problems of the community. But while doing so one should not forget the contributions of its leaders. It is very unwise and uncalled for to ask Mr. Chowdhary to join National Conference. Mr. Chowdhary is a tall personality of Pandit Community. He has been contributing a lot to the community as a doctor, as a writer, as a social worker and as a leading migrant leader. As is know to all that Mr. Chowdhary is on the hit list of terrorists. But despite repeated threat perceptions of militants Dr. Chowdhary is fearlessly pleading the community cause of the national level as well as on the international level.

As per the observations no national level political party or a regional party is in favour of a Homeland for Kashmiri Pandits. The Central and the State Government is in no mood to accept the demand of homeland.

However, if Mr. Sunil Bhat's perception of Home land stands to be right and genuine for Kashmiri Pandits there is no harm to demand for the constituencies in exile till the goal of Homeland is achieved or granted. It is, unfortunate, and unwise to stick to a particular demand. Other options and alternatives should be kept open to keep the community alive in the political field to save it from further devastation and political exploitation.
